Cubs' Zambrano Suspended Six Games
NEW YORK - Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano was handed a six-game suspension by Major League Baseball on Thursday following his antics in Wednesday's win over the Pirates.
The fiery right-hander was ejected by home plate umpire Mark Carlson following a close play at the plate that tied the game at two in the seventh.
Zambrano, who was making his second start since returning from the disabled list with a hamstring injury, garnered the suspension after shoving Carlson with his right forearm. After getting tossed, he proceeded to launch the baseball into left field, fired his glove and took a bat to the Gatorade bucket in the Cubs dugout.
The 27-year-old, who turns 28 on June 1, is 3-2 with a 4.22 earned run average this season for the Cubs through eight starts.
The suspension begins with Chicago's game against the Dodgers on Thursday.
