This is a haunting slide show. It makes me so sad. Everything falls away eventually.

2. I am so glad the city down the road saved theirs
It is beautiful today.

On a totally different note, my aunt's mother is 104 and used to play the piano for the silent movies. The stories she tells! :D

Talkies took her job away.

9. Paramount Theatre, Anderson, IN
The ceiling is the best part (not in the picture, drat). It looks like a starry night sky complete with a few that twinkle. It was renovated about 20 years ago. The orchestra plays there and the ballet co. does the Nutcracker there every December.

10. Cool!
I've never heard of Anderson; but I'm so glad to hear that they have an orchestra!

3. Yes, most definitely
Especially the old movie palaces. Somehow the multiplexes that took their place just don't measure up.

4. After looking at the slide show, I did a google search of amusement park ruins.

Old things, in whatever condition, are intriguing to me. DU pops up in many google search results! Here is a thread from 2004, with the OP's photos, about an old amusement park. If you know of specific places from your childhood that are gone, they might still be around...on the internet.

5. Not really
still amazing pictures, though. I find pictures of old buildings fascinating... it's almost more fun to imagine them in their prime, and to marvel at how quickly what humans create is destroyed by nature.

There is a sadness to it, yes. But it doesn't get me down.
