it's drizzly and gray here today.

Those are some great shots! Were you trying to ride the fallen tree downhill? :)

43. Me, too!
My best old friend, whose family introduced me to hiking in the White Mountains and Maine nigh 44 years ago, just became a grandmother. She lives over the border in Maine. I wanna go see her, and go hiking!

9. It was better than last week when I was tripping over tree roots, slipping into mud and
fighting off bugs therefore being a little bitch on the trail.

18. LOL! Mr gray was horrified
He's known me since '67 and expects periodic outbursts, but last week I was a psychotic princess. If I hadn't been so tired I woulda kicked down a tree and beat the fuck out of it.

12. Yep, I got a similar pair in my car.
Cheap-ass grocery store ones. :) And they're better than most of the 10-12 dollar ones you'd get anywhere else.

14. No kidding.
I bought two pair of the same and I alternate between the gold rims and the silver. They're light on my face, and the lenses are dark dark dark. I loves them.

17. It has been my experience that the cheap-ass grocery store ones last me
a lot longer than the expensive ones. I find that I usually lose or break a pair of good sunglasses after just a few wearings, but that $1.00 pair will stay around for years.

Edited on Thu Jun-04-09 01:06 PM by DarkTirade
Every pair I've had that was over 10 dollars never lasted a year. Every pair I've had that's under 6 dollars... well, I still have 'em. :)

though I'm sure there here somewhere....the other strange thing when I was a kid, I would find hundreds of salamanders in the woods in NH. None up here.

26. Lovely photos all.
I can only dream of scenery like that. Around here we have to look for our photo opportunities on a much smaller scale. I was just out in the yard and found this tiny little Iris. I tried several different backgrounds, but decided on bright white.

33. I suck, GW.
You post those beautiful pictures with gorgeous scenery and lovely flowers and on first look all I see is the rock faces.

I had to take a second run through your post and skip the "is that climbable?" pics to see where you went and vicariously enjoy what you did.

That's some beautiful country.

34. Beautiful!
It looks a bit familiar - I managed to take a short road trip up there, and I made my wife hike (nearly) every single little trail on that long scenic highway. "Waterfall? Pull over! Overlook? Pull over! Lake? Pull over? Loop trail? Pull over!!"

She was a wee bit sick of it (and me) by the end of it all, but I think we'll have a chance to go back later this summer...

:)

36. I used to despise the Kanc since it is so over used by tourists but I've fallen in love
with it recently. Passaconway Road is one of the most beautiful roads in our area.

37. I have similar issues with some of our local roads (like Hwy 1 up the central coast)
It's crazy beautiful and I love being there, but I can only take so much of people driving 20 mph under the speed limit, parking to fill an entire turnout (or even stopping in the road!), and swerving wildly as they try to take a picture. I'm pretty confident that my blood pressure creeps up a bit this time of year... :grr:

Still, the landscape makes it all worthwhile. :)

38. Being out in the woods is the mose scared place I can be.
Running into someone on the trail jars the experience, but they probably feel the same way running into me. I try to find logging trails that have been abandoned and hike those. You end up running into moose and bear when you hike those trails.
