In the Name of the Queen I hereby Requisition this Forum!
There has been too far much silliness going on lately, so I'm going to put an end to it all.

As of midnight, Friday June 5th, British Summer Time, the Forum known as 'The DU Lounge' is now governed by the laws of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and of England and Wales.

As her unofficially self-appointed spokesperson, I have been made Governor-General of the Lounge.

The new rules are as follows:

1) The official languages on the board that may be used are English and Welsh. If "Americanisms" are used the offender will be fined 20 shillings.

2) Civility is expected here. Offenders will be sentenced to an unspecified length of stay in the Tower of London.

3) All forum members must pledge alleigance to Her Majesty. Those refusing to do so will be deported to France, or worse... Belgium.

4) The Queen likes good comedy, so threads about John Cleese, Eddie Izzard, Julian Clary or Ronnie Barker are to be encouraged. Her Majesty however is not fond of "popular music" so please don't bring up The Beatles, the Rolling Stones or Madonna.

5) Any talk of dissent will not be tolerated. Offenders will be forced to skinny dip in the Serpentine River in Janurary. In the morning.

To ensure compliance with Rule #3, all forum members must check in here and pledge their alleigance.

God Save the Queen!

Yeoman Warders have been pretty much exclusively male until about a couple of years ago.

I certainly respect the institution.

22. It's all to do with LSD.
Pounds, Shillings and Pence. £.s.d

12 pennies make a shilling, 20 shillings make a pound.

Therefore you'd be fined one pound. About $1.62.

Most fantasy sports are far more complicated than the real thing.

Here's hoping the opposite is the case here:

50. Heh - no chance - here's the law for a batsman being out 'leg before wicket'
Law 36 (Leg before wicket)

Out LBW
The striker is out LBW in the circumstances set out below.
(a)The bowler delivers a ball, not being a No ball

and (b) the ball, if it is not intercepted full pitch, pitches in line between wicket and wicket or on the off side of the striker's wicket

and (c) the ball not having previously touched his bat, the striker intercepts the ball, either full pitch or after pitching, with any part of his person

and (d) the point of impact, even if above the level of the bails
either (i) is between wicket and wicket
or (ii) is either between wicket and wicket or outside the line of the off stump, if the striker has made no genuine attempt to play the ball with his bat

and (e) but for the interception, the ball would have hit the wicket.

2. Interception of the ball
(a) In assessing points (c), (d) and (e) in 1 above, only the first interception is to be considered.

(b) In assessing point (e) in 1 above, it is to be assumed that the path of the ball before interception would have continued after interception, irrespective of whether the ball might have pitched subsequently or not.

3. Off side of wicket
The off side of the striker's wicket shall be determined by the striker's stance at the moment the ball comes into play for that delivery.

http://www.lords.org/laws-and-spirit/laws-of-cricket/laws/law-36-leg-before-wicket,62,AR.html

Now that that's clear, please memorise the 9 other ways a batsman can be out before proceeding further.

... what with the Embassy being there and all...

Certainly time for DC to get "statehood", two senators, and at least one Housemember.

Now if I could really confer proper British stuff then maybe we could get NHS for DC? Healthcare for everyone in DC? Hmmm...
