3. We were awakened by a HUGE thunderstorm ~3:30 Thursday a.m. |
|
The thunder rumbled for around 30 seconds several times. Lightening followed almost immediately by thunder. I turned the radio on and President Obama was speaking live from Cairo. Listening to him made me feel calmer. Did you have some wild weather? It's 70º and sunny here, about 160 miles south of you.

4. The seasons in Houston Texas |
|
Winter is when asphalt freezes solid in the streets.
Spring is the rainy season, when the buildings turn green (algae).
Summer is when the leaves turn brown. Sometimes they catch fire.
And Autumn is Hurricane season.

7. DC only has two seasons as well |
|
I am from texas but lived in Washington, DC about 10 years now. At least in Texas we have what some call "spring and fall". DC has Winter and Summer. We go to one to another without any pleasant transition....:)

14. I once lived in plain view of the Sierras, and a June smatter of snow in the high mountains |
|
doesn't sound terribly odd. The foothills can be stinking hot but it's chilly at elevation

15. Unmelted snow at high elevations yeah. Fresh snow in June? That's odd. |
|
Normally April is a really late storm and there isn't any substantial rain/snow after mid-March.

16. About thirty-five years ago, some friends of mine and I, being too filled with self-confidence |
|
to exhibit any good sense whatsoever, took a little "short-cut" between two trails, because the topos indicated we'd save about sixty miles of hiking that way: it was something like two miles horizontally and maybe a somewhat under a thousand feet up and down, and it took us from dawn to dusk to do. It must have been late June or early July, and we got a few flakes at the ridgetop
About ten years before that, Tioga Pass was closed due to an August snow-storm. I'm under the impression that snowfall closes Tioga, not every year but regularly in late May or early June
But I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing: I didn't live out that way for more than a few years, and it was a quite a while ago

13. NC seasons: (1) Crank the heat up to 90; (2) Crank the AC down to 50 |
|
This is actually not quite true: we have a few days of spring and fall, but they typically occur randomly throughout the year
