I Need Help With Some Heavy Lifting. Why Do I Feel So Ashamed?
Tomorrow, I will be picking up a large projection TV from my mother in law's house and delivering to my home a couple miles away. I also need to move my large TV from our living room to our basement.

Every day I drive by a group of Mexican immigrants waiting for someone to hire them for day labor.

I know these guys need the cash. I'm willing to pay it. It's not illegal. But I still feel bad about the whole thing for some reason.

How much would you pay someone to help with this kind of work?

1. 50 bucks apiece.
They might do it for less but I'd still give them each $50.

:)

5. Now I feel kind of ashamed
I guess the unemployed employing the unemployed isn't very much of a stimulus package

11. Nothing to feel ashamed about...
50 bucks is what I would pay. I'm sure paying less would be completely ok. Sorry you're unemployed. If you're looking for something, best of luck!

2. I'd pay two guys, about $12-15 each (less than an hour of work?)

I paid a young man who sold a 180lb. SONY TV to my son $10.00 to help my son carry it down 3 flights of stairs. I probably would have dropped it, or had to go to the chiropractor!

4. Less Than An Hour
But moments of great physical strain that I myself could not withstand.

Then again, I'm too lazy and out of shape to even think about it.

3. no less than minimum wage for sure
What's the livable wage rate these days?

I guess if you were VERY clear that this was just an hour long job as opposed to a full day job and they agreed to do it, then it's all good.

6. I'd hire a mover that does small moves.
Licensed and insured goes a long way with me.

8. You Think 20 Bucks Each Would Be Fair
I do. But I don't have a lot to give, either.

10. more than fair
this is going to take at most an hour, right? $10 an hour is very reasonable for day labor 20 each for the job is going to fine. And they can always say no. But that is good - I wouldn't go any higher unless you have something else to do.

16. When I hire guys for only an hour's work, I'm pretty generous
I consider the fact that I may be taking them away from getting a day's work, so I give them $20 to $40 each for short term work. If it's a day's work, I give them $12 to $15 an hour.
