6. He's the reason I'm watching the game even though I know how it ends
It's on tape delay here in LA, but nba.com told me the Lakers lost by 10 already. :P

Minnesota has a rally good chance this year of making it out of the second round.

Actually I'm very happy Laker fans have embraced Karl as much as they have considering they hated his guts for the prior 18 years. We knew all along how marvelous he is.

7. I've always like him and Stockton
I would have Malone's children if he was so inclined

Laker fans were THRILLED to hear he was coming to L.A. Are you kidding? We needed him big time.

Don't worry catzies - I'll take care of him for ya!

10. Hmmm...I know lots of Laker fans who have always hated him.
"He's a dirty player, him and Stockton both. He gets away with murder. He chokes in the clutch." The LA media has been very good to him sinc he got here, but the average fan-on-the-internet took awhile to come around because they were used to hating him for so long.

But yes, LA's perennial weakness was at the 5 and he filled that need to a T.

11. alot of Laker fans are idiots too... :-)
I think most fans of any team will 'hate' the guy that can stick it to their team. Malone of course did alot of damage to other teams.

2. He was my Mailman before he was yours.
I took this photo of him on the Jumbotron last year at the Delta Center at Stockton's Retirement party. I got a picture of me with him and his mom too. He's a Republican but I don't care.

9. Ok you got me there. I've only been a fan of his since 1988.
I'm a n00b. :P

He's a sweetheart. I've met and talked to him several times.

Reaching for my Jazz media guide from last year...ah, here it is!

He's also the only player in history to score 2,000 points a season for 11 years in a row.

But I fear with the time he lost this year due to the only serious injury he's ever had, he won't break Kareem's record.

I was just tellin' my SO about this thread and he told me a story about his Dad(who's an alumni and also good friends with Karl) and his Uncle debatin' back in the day about Karl...his Dad told him how awesome he was and the potential he had while in college...his Uncle kept sayin' there's NO WAY he'll be better than one of the guys who'd played for NLU our other local college...LMAO...not only has Karl been better than that guy but he's become one of THE ALL TIME GREATEST PLAYERS EVER...this gets brought up every single time the subject of basketball is discussed at family get togethers too!!!

14. What a great guy
- Gets his kicks by having bloodhounds tree mountain lions, then shooting them.

- Ran out on his young wife and infant daughters; while he was making millions playing all those years for the Jazz, despite efforts by his basketball-playing daughter to make any contact with him, he refused to see, talk with, or financially support those daughters or his ex-wife. His daughter went to several Jazz games, and he still wouldn't even talk with her, reducing her to tears. Finally, after about 18 years, and ONLY when his daughter became a bigtime star, he arranged to meet with her.

- He's always been the master of the cheapshot sharp elbow, causing as many injuries as any player in the modern era. Thug, bully, real big man.

Yeah, what a great guy - just ask his daughter or anyone who's played in the NBA with him.

16. Uhm...you are WRONG about his daughter......
...Cheryl Ford played for Louisiana Tech too and I KNOW for a FACT he was introduced to her long BEFORE she became a great basketball player...how do I know this...because MY own father-in-law was one of the people who got her to come to play at La. Tech AND was instramental also in gettin' Karl and her to meet along with her twin brother...don't spew shit you've only heard through tabloid style sports news reports...k?! :eyes:

19. Tabloid style sports news reports?
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 12:19 AM by Bundbuster
Cheryl and her mother were on a 30-minute interview on ESPN, the leading sports channel in America. I was wrong about one thing - it was a daughter and her twin brother who the mailman ran out on, not 2 daughters. He knew who Cheryl was - had been introduced to her - but did not associate with her until she was playing and starring for La. Tech., 18 years after he abandoned his family. Obviously you didn't see that ESPN interview and the bitterness which still welled up in Cheryl's (and much more in her mother's) eyes when asked how they felt about the big man now.

Not only is he a cad, a bully, and a lout, but I can add on a personal note: I've followed the NBA since 1955, and spent 6 years as a professional photographer at NBA games - arrive and start shooting 90 minutes before tipoff, when the players are really themselves, joking around with their friends, not trying to impress anyone. That's when you get to see what these guys are truly like, and how their teammates respond to them when there's no spotlight or media pressure. I can easily say that Malone is as universally disliked as anyone who's played in the NBA during his career.

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but it never ceases to amaze me how team or superstar loyalty/idolitry and media creations can blind fans to some really ugly realities.

edited to correct spelling of "Cheryl"

21. well from MY OWN personal knowledge of the entire situation......
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 12:47 AM by jus_the_facts
....not THE all knowing ESPN interview/slant which I'm sure they played up to the HILT and cut it together to make it look as damning as they could towards Karl....Cheryl and her brother were reunited with their father BEFORE she was a starter for La. Tech...and I KNOW this for a FACT as as stated above because I personally know the people involved...that's the REALITY.....I never needed ESPN to tell me anything at all about any of it.....sorry to burst YOUR bubble because in this instance the MEDIA has YOU blinded!!

on edit....also my father-in-law is a die hard democrat who's known Karl since he was a teenager and first started playin' serious basketball....he was personally invovled in gettin' Cheryl Ford to come play basketball for La. Tech as he's been invovled with the Lady Techsters for YEARS....he never judged Karl over any of this because he didn't even know about those kids for most of their lives...there was some emotional denial because it had happened so long ago and he was married with children of his own...it took some time to come to grips with it all on ALL sides....maybe one day ESPN will do another interview to show how it's all been resolved and they've all been able to put it into perspective...but that wouldn't be as beneficial to their attempts to smear one of the greatest to ever play the game...I never said he a PERFECT human being who's never made any mistakes.....peace!

22. OK - I'm blinded
I'm blinded by a straight-out interview in which Cheryl was simply asked to describe the non-relationship and its effect on her. Then I was blinded by the camera looking into her teared-up eyes as she answered the question of how much it all hurt her still.

I was blinded by being right on the baseline during shootarounds & warmups during 6 years of Jazz games, seeing Malone's teammates avoid him like the plague in a way that only a handful of NBA players are shunned. I was blinded by sitting on the court, right under the basket during those 12 games, seeing up-close the intentional havoc and injuries caused by his elbow-cheapshot-blindside routine.

I was blind but now I see. If he's traded to my team I'll make him my hero.

23. as I stated an interview by the MEDIA isn't always the END all truth....
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 01:51 AM by jus_the_facts
.....they can be manipulated to make anything appear as they WANT it to appear....there's NO doubt in my mind that the situation isn't painful to her and probably all ways will be....I'm just tellin' you that your interpretation of that interview isn't the REALITY of the situation...if you refuse to accept the facts as I personally know them to be then that's fine by me...but the media has an agenda to try and make people out to be monsters when the truth of the matter is he was a KID and he made a mistake that he's since owned up to and is making right....and I'm sure you won't see them do another interview about THAT!

....and as far as the way he plays defense that's just too bad....and it's amazing that you can read his teammates minds too...infuckin'credible!!:eyes:

oh and one of the reasons Karl isn't as well liked by some is because he is a black man who was advanced and influenced by white men and has tried to emulate them which has dubbed him an Uncle Tom....and he has given MILLIONS of dollars to his alma mater and is also a very kind and generous person all the way around...so believe whatever you wanna belive man...I KNOW different!

17. Sorry but your facts aren't right
"he refused to see, talk with, or financially support those daughters or his ex-wife"

He's only been married once. He had an unmarried teenage relationship that bore twins - one boy and one girl. There were no multiple daughters. But he's still married to his one original wife who encouraged him to start a relationship with those kids.

"Finally, after about 18 years, and ONLY when his daughter became a bigtime star"

No, not "ONLY" when Cheryl became a star and no arrangments were necessary because they had reconciled long long before.

I'm not going to bash him for hunting; I don't walk in his shoes. Being so judgmental is well, freeperlike, isn't it?

24. Shaq's overrated
How does someone as "dominant" as him never once lead the league in rebounding? Hmm?

As for Malone, someone tell me how he's not a dirty player. Look where his eyes are pointed. Hint, he's not thinking about shooting:
