I was at the pet store and saw dwarf hamsters and also parakeets |
|
they were so damned cute. i don't really want hamsters or mice, but birds have been intriguing me lately, though i have no idea what's involved in keeping them.
are critters just fun?

1. Dwarf hamsters are good pets |
|
Easy to take care of. Not much of biters. Fun to watch.

2. they were hilarious...so active! |

one was running on the wheel and another was holding onto the wheel (in one place) getting dizzy i assume.
i've seen regular hamsters but these things were something else.

4. I've always wanted a pet bird |
|
Some of them are sooo smart. But birds aren't really compatible with cats. At least not with my current fuzzy monsters (who bang and scratch on the window in their efforts to get at the birds in the trees outside)

5. Seeing captive birds always depresses the hell out of me. |
|
So sad ... they're cooped up in so little space. What a horrible life. :(

7. Parakeets live a long time, |
|
I have 2, have had them for nearly 10 years. Their entertaining, but messy. You have to clean their cage every few days, and they always manage to have their seed casings strewn everywhere, no matter about the cage guard. They can live up to 20 years, I think.

Buying some food for my dog and cat and they had a huge cage full of mice doing their unbearably cute little mousy things - grooming each other, chasing their tails, running on exercise wheels. I remarked to the sales clerk "Those sure are cute, but I wonder how many wind up being some snake's breakfast?" She rolled her eyes and answered "Honey, you just wouldn't believe!"
Well, at least they don't sell puppy mill dogs, though they do let Pet Rescue bring in animals for adoption on weekends. I avoid shopping there then: too damned many sad eyes hoping for a home.
