I thought this was a post about the twins in the sports forum from SF.
As I said, nevermind.

Even one of those ferry rides on the Bay (or the catamaran ride -that is amazing!) - and then some food and drink at Fisherman's wharf- or the Maritime Museum/Aquarium would be a cool day.
And then the bike ride across the Golden Gate to the lovely vista/park on the other side.
One time, friends took us on a ride through Berkeley, near Golden Gate park, breakfast at a wonderful brunch place near there, and then across the GG bridge and then to the Muir Woods. That was a really nice retrospective.
Another fun one was a bus ride up to the Coit Tower (amazing WPA mural and wonderful! view of the city) and a walk down into Beat territory in North Beach - I took a Beat tour and had a drink at Vesuvio right across from City Lights books. Then a bus ride and walk down through China town.

9. well, there are parts of it that are actually kind of interesting - particularly |
|
the Maritime Museum and Aquarium. There are a lot of other things on that strip (further down is the Embarcadero) besides the "touristy" aspects. IMHO
Part of the beauty of the city is how you see it, I think, like riding the cable cars - it seems like a cliche- but you really see a lot of the city that way. But there are also some amazing Museums- like the Modern Art Museum and the area close to it or the Asian Art Museum.
I suppose if I only had one day - I would want to see the Coit Tower, walk down through the woods with the Wild Parrots to North Beach and see City Lights Books and get some great espresso and gelato, and then maybe have lunch further down the hill in Chinatown after walking through the wonderful shops there.
Then I would want to either drive across the Golden Gate bridge to the other side, park and see the astounding views from that side and then go to the Muir Woods to see the redwoods. I might also want to take one of those cruises. One of the best things we did last time we were there was take the Catamaran cruise through the bay.
Hope you have a great day - it's such a gorgeous and exciting city! :hi: I suspect that folks who actually live there might have a different view of what a one-day tour should be!

Ballgame if possible. One of the great parks. The Ferry building, great farmers market, great stores etc. All food related.
Irish Cofee Buena Vista Inn. (Ghirardeli Square area). If you must go to the wharf (and the crab is more expesnive here than anywhere) have a bowl of soup. Hop on a cable car and head for North Beach. Vesuvio. The Beat Museum. City Lights. Steps of Rome (do not under any circumstances eat at the Stinking Rose), Rose Pistola are all nice. If you are into a great old school funky burger, Sams is here. the greasiest of the greasy spoons. take in Broadway and the sex clubs etc... Walk or Cable down to Chinatown and check out the artier shops. Some of the carvings are exquisite (and yes some are ivory and wrong but they are stunning). Check out Sammy Woo's. weird little place, gotta enter thru the kitchen and go uptairs to the dining room. but you can bring your own beer and wine with no corkage.
Then down to union Square and probably your hotel> All kinds of upscale shopping, neiman, macys, bloomies etc all in about 5 blocks. the best Ross store ever is down here too.
Golden gate park is wonderful and if you can go to the De Young museum.
By the park is haight street and if you are into weirdness and real time flashbacks, then take a trip here. The Pork Store is an excellent place to eat.
In the Lower haight is a one block section of SF that is my favorite block in the city. A great bar, Tornado, that has zillions of beers, Rosamunde Sausages that are incredible and the best ten dollar meal in SF, and Memphis Minnies BBQ that is scrumptous.
When you are on the cable cars be sure to ride on the outside on the side of the traffic lane. unforegettable.
you can ride the elevators at the hotels and take some great shots from up there too.
