DU'ers, PLEASE help me unfreep this local poll!!
Our local and only daily rag, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, is notoriously far-right :scared:. The weekly poll from Sourdough Jack usually asks questions in a manner that leads all the local fundies to hit their home, work and library computers at once, skewing the results because most of us not on the far right don't read the rag :(.

This one, regarding homosexual marriage, is important to me. Please give me a typical DU helping hand and vote in the poll:

Thanks again, DU, from the Far North (struggling to overcome the neocons)!:loveya::hug:

What a whacky poll. "The Bible says it's a sin"? I defy him to find one passage in the Bible saying anything about gay marriage whatsoever, much less that it's a sin.

A Biblical marriage, such as Solomon or David had, involves a rich man having a harem with many wives, in the case of Solomon hundreds of wives, many of them teen-agers. I hope he is not using the Bible as an authority on how to have a happy married life, I'm just sayin.

5. Yup, this looks like Fairbanks
I lived there for a short while in '93, and you're right, it's extremely conservative. There's an element of the town that was made up of survivalists. However, there also was a small element of the town that was Deadhead hippie types, which I thought was quite cool.

12. Welcome to my Deadhead hippie world, EP -
Our progressive community is growing stronger by the month as the aging fundies leave for the Lower 48. Churches (especially the most fundy) are losing membership yearly. I have hope!

15. Very interesting
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 11:44 PM by Jack Rabbit
Well, at least Sourdough Jack admits this is an unscientific poll.

In addition to the usual reasons to call an online poll uncientific, Sourdough Jack has stacked the deck by providing not one but two ways to say that one supports gay marriage, assuring that the vote will be split.

In spite of this, both the votes in support of gay marriage lead the single choice opposed to it as of the time this post is written.

I LOVE making conservatives head's spin. What do you want to bet that if the results don't jibe with their views, that they're never published? Conservatives have a way of hiding news that doesn't agree with their projected results.

18. Poll is closed
But your side won, any way you cut it.
You'd think Alaska would be more libertarian in this regard, most people live there to avoid the government interfering in their lives.

From what I understand.

20. We do have lotsa libertarians -
or those who only think they are, but do what preacherman says, anyway......................

Actually, there's a very strong libertarian aspect here, and they really do NOT want the government on their butts. These folks usually vote the way the progressives do..........because most of us progressives want the government off our butts, too! Particularly when it comes to stuff like the Patriot Act, etc. So the local libs are mostly anti-Shrub.

We may even elect a Democratic US Senator this year! Go Tony Knowles!

Thank you so very much, folks! I knew DU would come through, you always do!

Sorry to those in the South who have to put up with vacationing AK fundies - but we DO breathe easier up here when we export 'em!!

:loveya: DU'ers, as usual you are the BEST!
