Does Fame or Fortune Matter To You?
How much of yourself would you be willing to sacrifice to become incredibly rich, or incredibly famous?

I would love the money, but fame would be too great a hassle.

1. I like my quiet life. I wouldn't sacrifice it for either incredible fame or fortune.
Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 01:33 PM by Heidi
I'm more than happy to work for the money we need to maintain the life we have, but I'm not willing to sacrifice anything about this life for vast riches or any degree of fame.

3. Used to want fame so bad I could taste it--glad it didn't happen,
I couldn't have handled it, and would almost certainly be dead by now ( with episodes up until that point that would probably make Lindsay Lohan, Robert Downey Jr. at his lowest, and Britney Spears , look stable and well adjusted) . Used to want fortune too, but only if it came without sacrificing my values, and I honestly can say I mean that;and still true today. I can live with or without it, but wouldn't sell my soul for it, and I don't think I ever would have.

7. I'd enjoy freedom and influence
Those would be nice. Money can buy freedom and either can provide influence and the ability to get things accomplished.

However for their own sake, no not really. I am comfortable with anonymity and making enough to enjoy a lifestyle I want.

If I were rich, I'd want to be mega rich. Billions or so. Because at that level you can start up foundations designed to pursue your interests. Paul Allen of Microsoft started up an attempt to understand gene expression in the brain. Bill Gates is making big efforts at combating global poverty.

If I were rich and famous, it'd be nice to use it to fight for mental health, scientific development, human rights, etc. Jimmy Carter and Bono are excellent example of how fame can be used for positive ends. Paul Allen and Bill Gates are examples of how money can be used positively.

So I'd only want money and fame if I had positive outlets for them.

10. You probably wouldn't love the money, either - It is a pain in the ass to get
worse to keep, and you have to associate with some real assholes along the way.

I have "enough" without having too much. Rather have less money, more freedom.

till I retire, then fuck 'em.

14. My favorite author, Wilbur Smith, is one of the richest men in Africa
Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 09:30 PM by Mr. Ected
He has written 35+ novels and is internationally acclaimed.

Except for a few jacket covers, few know what he looks like.

Unmitigated creative ability. Incredible wealth. Near anonymity.

To me, that would be a status worth attaining.

13. I just want to mind my own business and have others mind theirs. I had my privacy taken away from
me and I will forever be fighting to protect it.

15. It does matter to me.
I would like to be able to pay for my mother to be able to retire. And I also have ideas of being able to travel and be financially secure.

But I could not sell any part of me for those things, so I live happily with very little, and spend many hours trying to accept my faults that have added hardships to those I love and who help support me.

I would not want to be famous, in the rare occasion that I say something of value, I would hope that actual thought is famous, but I also know, I only know of the thought because it was famous long before me.

17. What would I do with fame?
I'd need groupies, a posse, a media handler and at least one blood-sucking leech of a friend who was half a step either from rehab or dying in the gutter.
Makes me tired just thinking about it. Now fortune, I could handle some of that. Depends on how much though. I've got no desire to be in Warren Buffet or Bill Gates' rolodex. but 20-30 mil? Sure, no problemo.

22. I would really really REALLY love to win the Lottery.
I buy a ticket every week and dream of the life I'd live...

But the fame? I don't know. I think I'd lose SO much of myself if I never had any privacy that it would not be worth it. But it might be nice for a day or two.
