9. The Queen of the Blues Koko Taylor
Jackson would not have been as succesful as he was without pioneers like the Queen. It's as simple as that. RIP Koko.

14. Re: the "unusually high" phenomenon--
One of my morbid favorite sites is http://dpsinfo.com/dps/ Dead People Server, which compiles just this sort of list.

I think the "unusually high" thing has to do with (years of existence of "y medium" where "y" = arts, entertainment such as tv, sports, news, etc) x ("x" where 'x' = # of people with any prominence in a given medium) x (widened exposure by mass population to any media via new technology--eg "cable tv" or "internet") is divided by # of people who give damn, to express a factor where the liklihood of anyone's death being widely noticed becomes more probable.

Or something like that.

16. So Fred Travalena died
His name was listed at that site so I looked it up:

Fred Travalena has succumbed to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on Sunday,
June 28, 2009, after a seven-year battle
with the disease.

I wasn't big fan but he did some funny impressions. RIP, Fred.
