My dog is SOOOOOO spoiled!

I just cooked (lightly seared on both sides) my doggie a steak. He layed on the floor while I fed him bite sized pieces. I kinda felt like I was feeding the king grapes - :)

Even funnier, I am a vegetarian. The ONLY meat that comes into this house is for consumption by critters. I buy turkey and chicken breast for my sugar gliders (the dog gets boiled chicken and turkey too), and steaks for my doggie.

When I die, PLEASE let me come back as a pet belonging to an owner like me. :D

2. My dog, an adorable 20 lb. Tibetan Terrier, is recovering from surgery.

But, he would come out of a coma when I open the fridge. And, he loves cheese, fish, and, of course, poultry.

He has 2 more weeks (2 weeks gone already!) to recover before he can get a regular walk following his surgery. (He dislocated his hip trying to jump onto the bed!) :-(

In the meantime, he gets lots of love, rest, and some treats!

3. Those treats aren't considered "people food" in my household -

Since I don't eat meat, my dog by his very nature must have meat protein to survive, he gets steak and poultry as "dog food" -

I actually researched and was considering the BARF diet for him and the kitties - but I just know there's no way I could handle all of that. I get tired of cooking the sugar gliders dinner every night as it is.

So - I'm doing a happy medium. The dog gets his very expensive kibble, and from time to time it is supplemented with fresh fruits and veggies (he looooves blueberries and carrots), and some steak or poultry.

He's very healthy, and people comment on his coat all the time, so I guess he's doing alright!

4. Diet matters

My dog (sort of mine) is a pit bull of the Amstat variety, a rescued street dog, and several years ago suffered extreme pain as a result of osteoarthritis (a common result of early malnutrition). The X-rays were gruesome. The vet recommended the usual pill regimen and a not very optimistic prognosis. A second opinion from a naturopathic vet advised organic meat meals and distilled water, a few supplements like Solomon Seal, and the dog, after a relatively short recovery period has been running and jumping and swimming like a pup for years since.
