I keep thinking I'll find it under some furniture at the cottage. I never do.

11. My cousin Darrel

About ten years ago.

I went to see him a few weeks before he died, to say goodbye. We're sitting on the verandah chatting. He's 51, got a brain tumour, had chemo, he's gaunt, wasted, weak and can't speak much.

"When we were kids," I said, "I thought you were the coolest thing out."

He said "I still am."

I think I was 10 or 11 when my aunt got me one. I was in the locker room at the local pool, put it down, and when I came back it was gone.

So I don't know if that consitutes lost, but it was lost to me.
