Windows 7 Home Edition $49.99

The Sale ENDS TONIGHT at 11.59 PM

Yes, I've tried it and it blows Vista out of the water and is better than XP.

1. Too bad they didn't discount Ultimate.
I might have thought about it then.

Thanks for the heads up, anyway!

3. Smart idea!
Ugh.... as much as I hate the thought of spending money on Windows, maybe I'll think about it. I'd really rather shell out for Ultimate though, if at all.

I was also thinking of upgrading my HTPC sometime after 7 comes out - just buying a new one w/ it preinstalled. Currently running one with Vista Ultimate that I would use to replace the computer in my office.

Have you used 7 yet? I've heard it's kind of nice, actually...even though it PAINS me to say it. lol

5. I'm a MCSE and A+ and all that crap but I'll have to say..It's the best...
..operating system Microsoft has put out.
It makes up for Vista. :puke: :) :)

I like it.

6. I hope you know that just being a MCSE makes your opinion worth fuck-all.
 ;) :D

What's funny is that for how much I'm not a MS fan, I've actually had no issues with my Vista box, and I actually kind of like it. It's been very stable, reliable and FAST for me --- multiple HTPC related issues (codecs, etc) aside.

It's not that fun to support end users on it though.

Ain't that the Truth.

I never "Got Into" Vista very much. I didn't like the amount of resources it used. ..plus 10 other things.

First thing I noticed about 7 is it starts up so fast and is more intuitive than Vista.

Next thing was I shut it off while I had Sound Forge and Bearshare running..the Computer shut down in about 7 seconds.
I thought: "Damn..that's a nice change" :)

13. Some MCSEs know the goods. But most just know how to think like microsoft...
and have no real world experience, at which point they'd see how dilettante Microsoft has truly, truly become.

I wasn't impressed with Windows 95, but Vista should win some awards for how hacked up it truly is.

16. Honestly, the only reason I don't have an MCSE is because I'm lazy.
Not all MCSEs are shills - some are actual technology geeks that like well paying jobs! Not many PHBs are impressed by uber unix skills, they just want to know if you can make their Exchange server work all purty like. PHBs drive the industry, and PHBs loooooooooooooove Microsoft.

I work at a place that LOVES unix (and OSS in general) - FreeBSD in particular. Or at least my direct superiors in IT do. All of our servers run it. Even with that - if it weren't for Microsoft I wouldn't have a job.

14. Less resources on a HTPC that acts as a media server -
from which are streamed 1080/720p video files (among other things) sounds like a WIN. Although I'm looking at getting an HP Mediasmart device that runs WHS to serve my media in the not too distant future, I still want an upgraded HTPC, and Windows 7 sounds like it will be pretty decent!

Since I haven't looked into it yet, what's the Ultimate version get you in 7? Is it basically the same as Vista, where it's Business w/ the premium components of Home added on?

In case it wasn't obvious, the comment I made referenced in your subject was nothing more than some good natured ribbing on my part.

...is more hardware oriented and trouble-shooting.
I fix Computers (here in Florida) and it pays better than "workin' for the Man"

I meant to post a Post about how easy it is to make money repairing computers ...and offering to do it cheaper than the "Gunk Squad"
I just put a little Ad in the St petersburg Flyer and boom...was making dough fairly quick. :)

Plus..I get to work when I want to and also get to sleep late. YES! :)

Microsoft Shill for Corporate Empires?

I keed, I keed. It looks good but I'm still a fan of Open Source. I wonder if that $49.95 includes an Office and Photoshop? What, really? Just the OS?

12. I was a fan of open source until I realized Adobe ain't goin' there...
A big fan of Ubuntu, I found OS X to be more streamlined, faster, runs Adobe apps natively, and supports old or bizarre hardware Linux never will.

If people can't afford the Mac (:(), then Ubuntu is the way to go... unfortunately, the field I'm going into is what makes the mac perfect. So I felt more than compelled. And it's been worth it, so far.

17. Yeah, if you gotta have Adobe...
The only Adobe product I've ever used is Acrobat and that thing is a POS. Switched to FoxIt Reader years ago before I ever even considered moving to Linux.

;)

Sorry for taking this shit seriously. I have a family to put food on, therefore I am going to use the supported tools. It's not my fault that, via this case of serendipity, did I really (and quickly) see the advantages of OS X over Windows and Linux.

I'm tired of playing little plastic rebel anyway... (e.g. Using Linux and being the stereotyped "Linux warrior"...)

It's still Windows.

Sold by Microsoft.

Under Steve "Taxing foreign profits makes US labor more expensive" Ballmer.

There's nothing left to say that I haven't gone into nauseating detail over in the past.

Not really: They just took the original XP code base, plonked in bitlocker, aero, and the other bits that didn't bloat vista up, and repackaged it. You're being swindled. Have fun.

18. Dude.
It would be a lot easier to take you seriously if:

1. You didn't have the EXACT same tirade AGAINST OS X and FOR Windows previously.

2. You didn't go on, and on, and on, and on.... incessantly about it.

and

3. You weren't so condescendingly douche-y while doing it.

Just sayin'.

20. In order:
1. Times change, people change. I used to be pro-windows. Like politicians, real people can change their mindsets too you know...

2. google "Asperger's Syndrome wiki", but you're right...

3. The treatment I got by Microsoft in a few of the support calls I had to made was far, far worse. I've been polite and the epitome of politeness by comparison. (on a general scale, I know I've been condescending. I see no reason to give that company even feigned, token politeness.)

23. Hey, I hate on MS with the best of them.
Even back when you were Pro Windows and anti "Nothing more than freebsd" OS X. That said, damn! BlueJazz was perfectly respectable and pointing something useful out to people.

AND we wouldn't likely be here, online, on DU having this discussion if it weren't for MS. Like it or not, they brought the PC to the masses, and the masses having PCs is what's made the internet what it is today. Irony of the internet being run on OSS notwithstanding. ;)

I'm really glad you finally saw the light on MS - you just need to tone down the "born-again" style furor. :D

..to millions of people is their email and little sandra's school pics.
I can write (some stuff) in assembly...for fun... but frankly, it's to much fucking trouble and a lot easier to turn a switch, run sound forge, ntrack studio and record my troubles away..(Via Tenor Sax).

I know the shitty history of gates and the whole pack of other thieves but...hey...I'm just crawling through Reality like the rest of the idiot masses.

9. Shameless marketing gimmick to help make up for Vista's losses...
I've played with the beta of Win7 too. Meh.

Forgive me for not partaking in making shittysoft any wealthier. Vista was such a file-destroying, bloated mess complete with false promise after false promise (DX10 was a scam, the Ultimate Extras were hardly anything of the caliber Microsoft claimed they would be... We're customers. Not walking wallets.)

On the plus side, have fun! It is better than vista...
