Nick Zedd vs. Richard Kern movies on DVD... |
|
I realize the audience on here for this post will probably be limited but here goes anyway.....
I see that Nick Zedd has a DVD compilation of most of his films and some other added extras. Similar to Richard Kerns collection.
I have the Kern one but I've never actually seen Nick Zedd's movies. How do they stack up to Kern's? I can take RK's movies because there always seemed to be an underlying sense of humor and humantiy to them, buried as it was under the cacaphonous music, horrible acting and effects, and gratuitous shock (and I mean those 3 things as complements by the way).
But in interviews Zedd always struck me as much more mysanthropic and as such I'm guessing his movies are similarly so and may be less enjoyable than Kern's work.
Anyone seen both or seen the Zedd DVD? Wondering if it is worth me buying or not.

I was almost going to cast him in a flick but changed my mind at the last minute after a million bad stories and then my own incredible scheduling ineptitude took over... kinda wish I did, as I went on to really like his book... which had interesting stories about Zedd being one of Jack Smith's "apprentices" - there's a filmmaker who deserves better than crappy bootlegs, I was wondering why his work wasn't out in some form - but its all explained in a new VOICE article that's a laugh and a half.
Zedd-wise, Police State is good, too. Haven't seen any (is there any?) of the 90s-00s work, but did buy a record from him that wasn't bad at all...
