I think I'm finally getting tattooed

it's cool for a 33 year old to get a tat, right?

I've decided on a 2-3 inch thick band around the top half of my left calf. I love sharpie markers and I thought it only fitting to color myself. It looks a tad tribal in nature and reminds me of war paint.

Now I've only got to start shopping for a local artist and shop. I wonder if I need to be too picky since there is little to be artistic about.

1. I'm older than you by a decade+ and I'm thinking about it seriously.

I'm headed for a divorce and am in the mood to do something he never approved of! I recently made friends with someone in my new apartment building who does great work and I'm ready to take the plunge, I just don't know what I want yet.

Still, I think a delicate, discrete one in a delicate, discrete area may just lift my mood considerably.

Back to the OP, I wouldn't know how to find a competent tattoo artist, since I have no tattoos yet. But I would somehow research forums to find out how to check references. Or, more realistically, my friends would find the tattoo artist, because I sould have to be so passed-out drunk that the tattoo would be a surprise upon awakening.

And think about it for a minute. The people who are doing it deliberately to "mess with" people are not those whose opinions you would probably care about anyway.

I think most of the "unreccing" in the Lounge is probably people being jerks; they'll lose interest in after time.

6. just some advice -

You DO need to be picky about who you go to. Tattoos are permanent body art, and like everywhere else, you get what you pay for. A tribal design may seem simple, but you still want the best artist you can get to do it for you. Believe me, someone that knows what they're doing with the needle will make a difference a few years down the road.

Other than that, go for it!
