I hate working out and I hate watching what I eat.
I want a beer and a pizza so bad.

I am ready to quit this workout/watching what I eat bullshit.

I lost three pounds initially but nothing NOT ONE SINGLE GODDAMN POUND in the twelve days since. What the hell is going on? I eat only about 1300-1400 calories per day. It's less than what I used to eat and I am working out at least 5 days a week. I don't get it and I feel like giving up.

1. I wish you were local so we could be workout & diet buddies.
Now about that beer and pizza. Please, go for it!!! have one! Really!

Your diet will be OK if you allow yourself a "cheat day", where you can have that beer and you can have that pizza - just as long as you behave yourself the other days. Also I can't say where I read it or whether or not it is true, but I believe if you mix up your diet a bit you'll lose more weight; if your body is used to burning 1300-1400 calories a day it'll acclimatise itself to this intake and adjust accordingly. A burst of 2500 calories once in a while may make the body think "Whoah! too much! Burn, baby burn!!"

How much each day are you working out? What are you doing? It's good to be active, but IMO it's best to be fit and maybe a little fat... but that's for you to decide. It might be you're doing too much.

If you hate working out, it's time to find a workout activity that's fun. What do you like doing?

Don't get too discouraged... anything I can do let me know.

Mark

2. I might have one this weekend.
The problem with pizza (and beer I suppose) is that it is hard to stop at one! One piece of pizza, one beer.
I think that I have just been too impatient with the pace of things. Maybe what I need to do is avoid the scale.

8. If you weigh yourself every day, STOP!
Weigh yourself once a week, tops. Also at the same time every time wearing the same thing. I use the Wii Fit as my scale and admittedly I do it in nothing but my underwear. My first target is to get my BMI under 30; presently I'm 30.86 for BMI.

9. Oh and here's another way to lose the pounds.
Come bike over to my house....

Of course I'm kiddin' but if you did that you couldn't help but lose a few pounds, even if it is for sweating it off pedalling in the hot Texas sun, and then all them states between you and me. Though it reminds me of something: my sister's husband (then boyfriend) asked how far Texas was from Greensboro and how long would it take to drive there and could we do it in a day. This after we did drive from Greensboro, to Myrtle Beach, SC, right across to Cherokee, NC and then back to Greensboro in one long weekend. That was *some* driving.

Mark.

Mind when it comes to losing pounds, I plan to lose a few hundred in October, got to go back home to England...

19. It'll take me a few months
I drove home from Atlanta in a day. About 17 hours altogether- 1000 miles. That's my limit for a day's driving. And I'll probably never do that again.

4. I'll second this!
I think that one "cheat day" a week on your diet is healthy, and it keeps you on your diet longer.

3. Day 15 for me, walking 1 hour a day and limiting my food intake
And my scale has been pegged at the same weight for every single day of it.

I share your frustration. But you have to think what's happening inside your body and beyond your vision. Even if gravity isn't assisting you yet, your organs are probably thanking you. It'll come. Hang in there.

You doing this alone?

13. Pretty much on my own.
My boyfriend has been very supportive. I had a few sessions with the trainer but I decided I am better off on my own for right now.

5. I wrote at some length on this topic on another website:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/5/20/153846/991">Diet v. Exercise in Weight Loss; A Comment On the Obesity Epidemic.

I don't know that what I wrote is worthwhile, or even comprehensible, but I like to think about the biochemistry when trying to lose weight.

It matters how and when and what you eat. You can lose weight and it is an important health issue, but it would be too much to assume that it will be easy.

For the work out part, you might want to try something very pleasant, like bicycling. If you can arrange to bicycle for transportation, so much the better for you and your planet.

Good luck. Don't quit.

14. I am trying some of the classes there at the gym.
I like the spinning class. There are some others I have not tried. So much depends on my schedule.
This is not a real bike-friendly town. If I lived closer, I might. I work outside most of the time and this time of year it is just brutal.

6. Every person is different
Not all changes work for all people. You must find what works for you.
I went on low-carb Jan 1, and weighted 255. I'm now at 220 and am never hungry and seldom find time to work out.
Find what works for YOU.

10. Muscle weighs more than fat
If you are working out and eating clean, the muscle you pack on will replace your fat...you can't turn fat into muscle, all you can do is replace your fat with muscle. Are your clothes feeling a little looser? Just keep at it and you will be stoked. I used to be a body builder so I know all about the ins and outs of losing fat.

17. I thought maybe they felt a little bit looser but it could be wishful thinking.
It isn't dramatic yet, though.

If nothing changes in the next few weeks, I am definitely going to have to re-evaluate.

16. see the uppost: Roon & flvegan...
their advice is better than mine, I'm just a mere amateur. Take 'em up on their offer. And no, flvegan won't turn you into a vegan if you don't want to... I respect his authority on this matter.

22. When you start taking steps to lose weight, your body responds with "OH NO YOU DON'T!"
Namely, it starts getting ultra economical -- spends less calories to perform the same physical work -- and it ramps up the munchies to 11. And it's selective. Non-caloric things you liked just fine, like tomatos, lettuce, soy protein, diet sodas... all of those become CRAP. Only greasy meats and carbs will stop the cravings.

I speak from personal experience.
