Another day, another day in the hospital
Ambulance, pinched nerve in my neck. OW FUCK OW.

I will regal you with my tales of mistreatment tomorrow. Tonight, Percs, heat wrap, and a Rose McGowan movie.

3. Did they recommend heat for a pinched nerve in your neck?
I was told by the physical therapist that heat can aggravate the nerves in my neck & to use ice instead. But whichever works for you! Hope you feel better soon. I know first hand how difficult a problem with one's neck can be.

8. they recommended
heat and moisture for the spasming. I had read on line that ice was better. But thats what the doc said. I bought this heating product, read the warnings about blisters and burns and be careful with sensitve skin. Thank god I didn't open it. Going back tomorrow and I'm gonna ask the pharmacist what to use.

11. The gel ice pack I have works well...
15 minutes on, 15 minutes off (for a couple of times in an hour).

It's similar to this one:

12. thank you so much
I think I am more comfortable with someone who has had good results with a product then the recommendation of a very hurried nurse.

15. You're welcome
I wondered why they never recommended heat, because I used heat when I had a lower back problem after a car accident many years ago. Maybe it's old school v. new school. At any rate, do get a professional opinion other than the ER. I've been to both an orthopedic surgeon and a neurosurgeon. I preferred the expertise of a neurosurgeon, personally.

Rest, and of course staying off the computer, helps a lot!

Once you've rested, and the spasms have subsided, ask your doc about physical therapy. It helped more than any meds.

13. Hope you get better soon...
*hugs*

Heat, cold... take your pick. My chiropractor recommends both, but does prefer heat. Pharmacists do sell electrically powered heat pads, and there's these combination heat/ice packs: put in microwave a bit for warm, put in freezer for cold.

Take care of yourself...

Mark.
