What works for me is I try not to expect too much from anyone. I've heard unhappiness in life comes when we expect from it what it can never give us.

8. My dear AllenVanAllen... |
|
You are so right about expectations.
Unhappiness in life comes when we expect from it what it can never give us.
So damn true.
Thank you for putting it so precisely...

13. How can you ever enjoy a simple moment of contentment with such an outlook? |
|
Thinking you must expect less than you desire?

16. One has a measure of control over what one must live with. |
|
That has to be true.
How much control is up to question.

17. If you really think about it |
|
the only thing we really control is our response to anything that may happen to us. Some things we can change but some things we can't.
When I say I don't expect too much from my friends, I mean that I don't expect that there will never be troubles between us, that way when things do go wrong I don't become totally lost in negative emotions. When we expect to never to have pain in life it makes it worse. When suffering comes I try to accept it, and not dwell on the "how can this go wrong" of it, then it always makes me feel a little better. It's always easer for me to come to good solutions to any problem when I come at it with positive energy rather than negative energy. We can't expect things will never go wrong because they will, just give it time. All in all, I try enjoy the moment as it comes. :hi:
crim son I hope you can find peace with your situation. Try to be kind to yourself.
Have a peaceful day! :)

She said things to me worse than an enemy would say, and right in front of other people. Crude, inaccurate insults, mixed in with confidential information. In front of other people was the worst, most humiliating part. We are in our 30s, so it's not like we are in junior high.
I don't know why she turned on me. She was already drunk when I arrived, and I only had two drinks before it broke down into ugliness. She only had the nastiest, most horrible things to say to me. Things I won't repeat.
I crashed at someone else's place, and in the morning I left a message on her voice mail telling her, "You are a bitch and I don't ever want to see you again".

I've learned a lot about who you can depend on and who you can't. Real friends will stick by you no matter what. I have a few of those, and they're great people.
