1. Respect.
Fame would scare the Hell out of me. I love anonymity and think it's highly underrated.

5. Fame.
Money is the only reality. Being famous brings in more money than respect.

Fame requires less effort. We Americans are lazy, as exemplified by most who are famous (sports people run around in circles, radio talk show hosts bloviate, ditto for TV news pundits... actors don't do much either except pretend. It's those trying to do real work to get respect that end up killing themselves with stress and shit pay.)

Fame is fleeting, but unlike most famous people I wouldn't buy a $50 million home, only to be unable to sell it for even $10 mil...

I don't know what I'd choose. But it's easy to see why famous people are often disliked. Often for not the wrong reasons.

And if that is not an option, then I would like to be respected for being famous.

16. Respect.
It feels better and more real then fame. But I've never been famous so who knows? But I wouldn't want fame because the thought of being the center of attention kinda creeps me out.

I prefer to fly under the radar, and be totally and utterly anonymous. It's much, much safer. Particularly when one has much to lose. There's an old expression in certain circles which holds that camouflage is the first law of survival. I believe that to be a truism and, moreover, hold that anonymity is the most effective form of camouflage.

Edit: correct punctuation error

I would feel better about earning it than fame and it's much harder to take away. I also don't care about being famous.

When my evil step-father would demand "RESPECT" from us..i used to think that meant do everything he said or get the belt on the behind.

28. Respect by default. I have no desire whatsoever to be famous.
If I were famous enough for the paparazzi to follow me around, I would eventually wind up with a criminal record and possibly in jail. I kid but little.

29. Machiavelli - Chapter XVII
Concerning Cruelty And Clemency, And Whether It Is Better To Be Loved Than Feared

Nevertheless a prince ought to inspire fear in such a way that, if he does not win love, he avoids hatred; because he can endure very well being feared whilst he is not hated, which will always be as long as he abstains from the property of his citizens and subjects and from their women. But when it is necessary for him to proceed against the life of someone, he must do it on proper justification and for manifest cause, but above all things he must keep his hands off the property of others, because men more quickly forget the death of their father than the loss of their patrimony.

32. Respect. It's something I have struggled my entire life to have.
I have Asperger's Syndrome and having problems I have dismissed as "excuses" for being a "lazy slacker", which has been very psychologically damaging. My life has been a constant struggle to have my voice respected. :(
