Just came across a file I thought I'd lost years ago. I sat down with a cup of coffee and just enjoyed a big grin as I reviewed the contents. Among some stuff that means nothing to anybody but me, two small envelopes, plain white; on one the stamp cost 15 cents, on the other 4 cents. The return addresses are identical: The White House.
When the one with the costlier stamp arrived I shared a mailbox with my landlady; she knocked on my door and stood there with her mouth hanging open as she handed me the envelope. It contained a brief typed note signed by one Daniel Chew, who was thanking me for a note of support I'd sent to President Carter.
The other envelope contains an ivory-colored card with an embossed gold Presidential seal at the top. The text reads, "The President and Mrs. Kennedy are grateful for your generous message concerning Mrs. Kennedy's televised tour through The White House. They thank you for your interest and send their very best wishes."
Yes, I've put the file where it won't be lost again. What a great gift for my day!

I have a few envelopes around with 4 cent stamps on them - and some that are even older but I am NOT going to go look in that drawer tonight. I need to go to sleep soon!
