2. Have you read "Into the Wild"?
I finally read it the other day and it really was one of the better books I've ever read. It's especially poignant if you had a troubled relationship with your father.

I figure its one of those books you have to mentally prepare for the depressing minutiae of events before reading. UTBofH was no picnic either.

6. The really depressing part about ITW
was the chapter about other people who did Very Dumb Things.

Like the guy who had a bush pilot drop him off at a remote lake for the summer... but forgot to tell the guy to come pick him up. x(

7. I thought the most depressing part was (spoiler)...
... the old man that wanted to adopt Alex/Chris because his wife and only child had died and he had no one left.
