My stepson and his wife lost their first baby to SIDS wen he was 5 months old...such a heartwrenching experience.

The first thing they did...the BEST thing they did...was to find a SIDS support group. These people had all been through it before, and knew precisely what kinds of things needed to be done to help them through. I highly recommend that your sister's friend locate a similar group in her area.
