I had two interviews for a secretarial position at my children's school. It is a county position that I qualified for by taking a test and getting on a list. The first interview was a panel interview. Basic "tell us about yourself" and "what would you do if...." questions. I thought I tanked it. I haven't been interviewed in years. I didn't feel prepared. But, I did get the second interview where I had to go in and type a letter in Word, use mail merge, and do some stuff in Excel. I did most of it (I didn't know how to do graphs in Excel yet). They asked for references which I gave them. I know that they didn't call my references (since I work with them, heh). I've been playing phone tag with the head of Human Resources for the past two days.

I assume that I didn't get the position(s) (there were two different ones), since they didn't check the references. But the last message from the dude said if I don't get in touch with him tomorrow to try his secretary and "we will go from there." I also got another position opening notice (same title) from the County today from the same school system. Either they have another opening or they decided to start over from scratch.

Sooooooo...What will be the outcome?

I'm leaning that way myself. I keep getting notices in the mail for openings that I qualify for, so that's encouraging that there are other positions out there. With each interview, I'll get more confident I suppose....or beaten down. Heh.

Holy Shit. They are going to offer me the position I wanted in Student Services doing database stuff. YIPPEEEEEE

A real County job, full-time, with benefits at my childrens' school! I'm so happy.

20. I went through a similar interviewing process in NH for a mental health agency

They never called my references. I had to email to ask what their decision was. They hired someone from within.
