Hopefully you've purchased a textbook that will teach you about the inherent inefficiencies in a command economy.

It's such a ripoff and I can't believe these publishers have the nerve to charge so much, especially to broke college students. I had to pay $200 for two new Spanish books that don't even look like books. They're not even hardbound, they even look like magazines! Fortunately, I was able to get the rest of my books online.
I'd say that when the next semester gets close, go to the bookstore and take note of the ISBN numbers of the books for your classes. If you order through Amazon's standard shipping (not super saver, USPS takes too long), you should get your books within a week. I've often found that a new book on Amazon is cheaper than a used book in the bookstore.
In any case, I hope your finances weren't hit too hard.

4. Grampa offered to pay for the books this semester. |

I didn't realize she had access to the book titles or I would have gotten a lot of them from Amazon. Some would have been easy to score - like Don Quiote.

6. You can "score" Don Quixote through gutenberg.org for free |
|
A lot of the old classics that are out of copyright are available over there for free. Download, format and print. If you need Huckleberry Finn, let me know--I've got it formatted out already.

5. Not only that, but the book will be obsolete halfway thru the term! |

Even though the actual course info hasn't probably changed for about a century.

I remember physics textbooks used to be $300 in the late 90's.
