I'm only 42, but I think I'm turning into my grandfather. |

Okay, I'm a cube rat who works in social services. Normally, that ties me to the office. Tuesday, however, I got to go out to the local community college campus, to help our clients who are taking courses to prepare themselves to re-enter the workforce. We do things like pay for tuition, books, parking permits, etc.
Anyway, it had been almost 3 years since I'd been anywhere near a college campus. I'd forgotten the wonderful energy of a college campus, how optimistic and hopeful everything seems there.
But I also noticed the, uh, odd fashion choices of the younger students.
Granted, in my college days, we dresssed pretty strangely, too.
But you gotta wonder about a girl (18 or 19 is just a girl to me, and not a woman; further evidence I'm getting old) who chooses to wear Ugg boots, a skirt so short that glimpses of "cheek" can be seen at points in her stride, and a Hello Kitty sweatshirt.
I mean, WTF?!?!?!?!

2. Yeah, I ask that all the time... |

I guess I'm an old fogie too.
I don't like any writing across my chest, or my butt.
I have a defective shoe gene... hate to shop for shoes and could care less which ones are "in style" (I've seen pictures of hammertoe and I'm not interested).
Once the temperature gets over 75 degrees, black nylons should not be worn before 6 pm. And Uggs are short for "ugly" but frankly, I'd call them "fuggs".
I swear, I have no idea what some people are thinking when they dress. I especially got a huge kick out of the whole "goth" thing that people were supposedly doing to make a statement. Turns out it's not much of a statement when everyone else is doing it too.

I'm under 30 and I see teenagers on the street and I think, "Their parents let them leave the house like that?"

7. I was talking to someone just out of her teens. She was talking about tennis and |
|
said "did you know tennis racquets used to be made out of wood?". Made me feel about 100 years old. Am I turning into my grandmothers? I'd love to be because they were both great eggs.
