Do you enjoy celebrating your birthday?
I'm a real party pooper when it comes to my birthday. I don't like being the center of attention. Having to sit there like a jackass while people sing you happy birthday, drives me nuts. Plus I'm not a real cake fan. Normally I just like to ignore it completely, and if necessary do something really basic.

2. YESSS!
Even at 48, I'm a sucker for a birthday celebration. Not the song so much, but cake, and drinking like a fool while opening presents? Yep, bring it on.
That might change in two years, though.

5. My dear Cant trust em...
I love celebrating my birthday! It's not so much presents or cake...

It's family.

Nobody sings for me, but still...

It's a fun, relaxed time.

Plus, every now and then, I'm lucky enough to have it fall on Thanksgiving!

:hi:

22. I am going to have to work...
it's falling on a Friday during the holiday season. If you hear of someone flipping out and beating people senseless at a Sears in NY sometime in early December...it'll probably be me.

My husband is much older than I am and he just kept on and on about how old I was. I wanted to hit him. He says there are dog years and female years. Such a kind man.

9. Yes
Although I must concede that it is just not the same since my mother passed away -she had this way of making you feel very special on your birthday that was truly wonderful and so I feel her loss on that day (in addition to the fact that of course she's not a part of the family celebration)

Our extended family is quite close knit so you get calls from all around the globe wishing you a happy birthday and our immediate family goes out for dinner to celebrate. It's very nice, really

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than have a group of people "obligated" to sing Happy Birthday to me.

I know that they think they're doing something I'd like, but inside I'm screaming.

13. Love my birthday!!!
I was almost a firecracker, born on the 3rd of July- a wonderful time for celebrating a birthday- those fireworks- just as much for me as the good old USofA!!!! Each July 3rd I celebrate another year I have lived through- good and bad- and surviving mentally, physically, and spiritually. It has been one hell of a trip so far, being 56 yrs old and I can't imagine what will be. Hell, yes, I celebrate my birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I had a lover and we did some fancy special things with cake, frosting, and ice cream (no candles), then things might be different... I'd be 13,505 by now...

20. this year, yes.
All I did was sit with my best friend on his deck smoking Macanudo cigars and drinking the expensive bottle of tequila he bought me, doing our best Allen and Denny Crain impression. we sat out there for hours, discussing metaphysics, theology, and other of life's little questions. I couldn't have asked for anything better.

I don't like the attention either. Fortunately, I have friends that DO like the attention et al with birthdays on either side of mine, so mine is often lost in the shuffle.

29. I enjoy mine. Don't usually have a party, though.
I usually go out for dinner (with a threat to MrSG that he'd better NOT tell the waitstaff that it's my birthday), or even better, I go on a trip somewhere.

31. Well, having been born on a party day (St. Pat's)
I grew up with a distinct aversion to green food; Mom dumped green food coloring into everything for my birthday dinner. There's just something not right about green gravy on green pork chops, y'know? Years ago my friends would drag me kicking and screaming (or maybe I was pushing them, it's not real clear) to 'Your Father's Moustache' where the band would throw a spotlight on the birthdayer and get the crowd singing 'The Old Gray Mare'. Some of the casinos around here treat you to goodies (sometimes including dinner) if you let it 'slip' that it's your birthday; some years I had three or four birthdays.

These last few years my friends have gotten accustomed to my unchanging gift request: a donation for the food bank. Whether it's my birthday, or a yard sale, or a picnic, or my annual December open house they bring canned goods or cash that goes into a special box. Friends in other states who can't attend make donations to their local food banks.

Do I enjoy celebrating my birthday? Quite honestly, I enjoy a simple gratitude for the fact that I'm still here. And that's a quiet celebration that has become, for me, a sweet part of every day.

And it's coming up this Saturday. Bummer. I usually do things with different people. I've hated them all my life.

35. Totally depends.
My birthdays these days get to be hugs & kisses from my wife and son and passing "Happy Birthday" greetings from some friends and family.

I may well do something special for my 35th personally but I have already advised what I'd like as a birthday present - 4 new tyres for my Jeep. Help out with it would work too.

Mark.

36. It's all gone downhill the last few years anyways
A year ago my car got towed on my birthday. I went to get it from the impound lot the next day and on the way back home my engine seized. A hole in the oil pan had drained all the oil...Oh a month after that my dad was diagnosed with cancer.

And this year I was laid off just a week or two before my birthday. Meanwhile my hair is receding and I'm incredibly stressed.

Fortunately my dad is doing OK, but the bills are piling up and my wallet was stolen the other night.

Fuck birthdays!

i'm really uncomfortable with being the center of attention.

38. This was the first time I was actually looking forward to my birthday
I turned 50 back in Feb. and it was my goal to go to Jamaica to celebrate.

Didn't happen.

Never really cared much about my birthdays before so I guess it was much too much to think this one would be special.
