Women march for topless rights.
A Topless Day Parade was held to celebrate National Go-Topless Day in Venice Beach. "Free your breast, Free your mind" was chanted as people marched from Navy St. down the Venice boardwalk to Muscle Beach. The demonstrators believe it is a woman's constitutional right to equality, to be topless. Women are free in other countries to make this choice without consequences, attention or humiliation.

Men joined in to show their support by wearing bras or bathing suit tops wanting women to have the same rights that they receive.

The demonstration was held at Venice Beach because during the mid-70's this was once the most popular "Bare it all Beaches" in Los Angeles County. Now Public nudity is illegal at all Los Angeles county beaches.

This peaceful parade and demonstration was supported by local law enforcement and fire department, who looked happy to be on duty! This falls into the "Only in California" category!

All women were totally covered-up by "pasties" that looked identical to the female anatomy they were covering! Clever but making for a most challenging report to cover .. .. editing was essential!

They do pose an interesting question... what is your view?

24. Yeah, I have always considered this the downside to nudism.
I sunburn easily, there are certain parts that if I sunburned, I'd need to be sedated.

3. If they want to go topless, I say let 'em...........
I really don't see what the big deal is. Dudes go topless all the time without any outrage.

4. There is no legitimate public policy reason to make it a crime.
It should always be an individual choice. The idea that any part of the human body is somehow obscene is idiotic. This is especially true of something as life-sustaining as a woman's breasts. Apparently, children need to be exposed to nipples until they are weened. Then they have to be protected from nipples until they are adults when they become harmless again. It's just bizzare.

5. There is no valid reason for the law to treat men and women
differently regarding clothing that must be worn in public. I'm surprised that protests like this stopped in the 80s, and are only now really picking up again. Our society really did regress for a while and become more puritanical. I hope protests like this are successful.

6. I would prefer that they require men to wear shirts.
Then everyone would have to remain somewhat decent.

15. At the protest (cause I totally watched that video) the men wore halters & bikini tops
It was actually kinda sexier than the topless chicks. My mind is confused now.

10. Totally in favor of de-mystifying the breast.
The sooner we see real breasts regularly... and not just perfect ones... the better.

13. agreed.
When I lived in Columbus, OH there was a woman who was mowing her lawn without a shirt on. She got a ticket and successfully fought it on discrimination charges, and now women are allowed to be topless just as men are.

It's such a ridiculous law anyway.

17. I seriously doubt it's possible to de-mystify breasts
Men (and some women) will always have a special affinity for them. Doesn't matter if they are covered, partially covered or completely exposed.

22. It would take a long time...
We have been conditioned toward seeing the breasts as something forbidden, hence their mystery heightens their allure. That said, I would agree with you, they would always hold a particular allure for some, no matter how common their appearance may become.

Years ago in our area the Topfree Seven campaigned for the right to not wear shirts if they so desired. Took it to the State Supreme Court. They won. Women can go topless in New York State if we want. http://www.tera.ca/legal.html#Rochester

Interesting thing, though: no women want to. Gee, I wonder why. :eyes:

an ugly body, just ugly minds...

19. Fine with me.
I lived in Brazil for two years, the costume for a Samba dancer at Carnival is body paint, one learns to live with it. Though having grown up in North America, there were awkward moments, like getting used to the idea that when a woman breastfeeds, they dry by just leaving them hanging out. I didn't see anything wrong with this, but I did have to learn to act like I didn't notice, because it's still very impolite to stare.
