OMNI was a such a great magazine. |
|
Examining things like UFOs from a serious perspective. Articles by Carl Sagan and U.S. astronauts among others. Science fact/Science fiction. Anybody remember OMNI?

1. it had some good science fiction and a good paying market supportive of writers |
|
some of the "fact" was silly season stuff, but it was all in good fun
the science fiction editor, ellen datlow, certainly did her part to support and encourage good writing

I also liked the old "Science 8-" (where they changed the name every year - 80, 81, 82) (I think) it was bought out by Discovery Mag. I was so pissed of that Science was gone, and I hated the Discovery format compared to the Science --, that I dropped my subscription.

7. Yes, but I had forgotten about until you reminded me. |
|
The mixture of real science and science fiction and fantasy, made it unique. Why did they stop publishing it?

9. Yup. My husband came across about 20 old OMNIs at a |
|
thrift store a while back; he was in heaven.
Neat magazine, very open-minded.

Mostly from trying to lift my collection of OMNI magazines. ;-)
I will never forget the Flying Vampire Frog story. It was a fiction that many people apparently believed. An unintended hoax.
