we have to help our boy cross the rainbow bridge today
it's time for our yossarian to move on. last night dad called my sister and i around 8:30 to tell us the time was coming. i sat with him until about two this morning and my sister spent the night up sitting with him.

the vet was very honest about his chances when we took him in last thursday and opted to try the meds as a last ditch effort. i thought i saw a bit of an improvement when i saw him this weekend, but we knew it was more a matter of when, rather than if.

this will be the first time either my sister or i sit with one of our cats as they go and neither of us think we're ready for it, but dad's always had to do this alone and we don't want him to have to anymore and yos was our friend for a long, long time and we want to be with him. we've got someone coming to my dad's house in a few hours, something for which i am very grateful. i wanted him to be able to go in a place that is comforting and familiar.

i'm so sad, but i know it's for those of us he's leaving behind. i'm happy for him because he won't be sick any more and he's got some good, good friends he's missed waiting on the other side for him. but it's been eight years since we've had to say goodbye to one of our friends and i think i'd forgotten how much this hurts.

:hug::hug::hug: to my mommy.

i'm going to miss you, my sweet and bestest guy

I had a cat for 17 years, and he ended up getting cancer in his jaw. It got so bad that he could no longer eat and we had to put him to sleep. The hardest thing I ever did, and it didn't help that he was still playing that morning.

It was a really hot and humid day, and my father and I carried him in a box (he weighed almost 20 pounds), and a shovel, to the top of a mountain to bury him. He was the best cat in my world, so it seemed only right to bury him at the top of it.

I'm glad you are having someone come to the house. It's best for him and for all of you to be together, at home. But I understand your grief

He looks so much like my long line of leonine black cats.

9. I am very sorry to hear this. I know how much you love your kitties.
But he can take heart...he'll get to hang out with my old kitty mittens when he crosses over. Mittens will take good care of him. He was a tough old cuss like that...
Hang in there.

25. I am so sorry
The following poem was a comfort to me when I lost my dog a couple of years ago.

Last Night
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peek.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

28. I am very sorry you are going through this.
But I am glad you and your sister and dad are taking good care of him, and I am glad he is so well loved. :loveya:

That doesn't make it any easier. Tonight is going to be excruciating for all of you. I wish there was any way we could help.

All of you and Yossarian have all my best wishes. I hope he goes peacefully. I hope he knows that he is loved. And I hope that there are nothing but wonderful memories and love left behind after he has passed, enough to keep him alive in your memories forever. :grouphug:

But you have the right attitude. I'm afraid I'm going to have to be facing that decision very soon with my 17 yo kitty and I don't know if I'll be able to be so unselfish. It's so very hard, I know.

Hugs to you and laylah.

36. To all who responded
our deepest thanks. He went peacefully, surrounded by loved ones and is now with those who went before him and making new friends, also. It was hardest on my sara and her dad and sister because they helped him on his journey. My sadness is from miles away.

Again, thank you and  to all.

I guess the vet made a plaster casting of his little paw for me. I'll get it when I go out for the wedding  He was such a good boy. I didn't want to upset him by bringing him here with me 7 years ago so left him with his "sisters" and sara for his own good but never stopped missing him. He's in a better place now.
