there's going to be a battle here at work |
|
We have one assistant, who works for the department head, who takes on every single project that comes to the department, even when her faculty are not involved w/ the project.
She's behaving like a "unit coordinator."
But we don't have a unit coordinator. When our department supported a 15 session Required Curriculum course, it was decided that our unit and course were too small to warrant a unit coordinator. Now we don't even support the 15 sessions' we're Elective Curriculum only.
Not only that, but we're a union shop, and if a unit coordinator job is created it has to be posted and people have to be given the opportunity to apply.
If this assistant keeps grabbing up all the projects (recruiting, unit seminars, etc), no one else will have the skill set to bid on such a job if one were to become available.
I'd like to have the opportunity to work on special projects, but I'm not the one in the battle. One of the other assistants is completely livid.

I'd like to watch, too, but you're too far away for me to smell the popcorn.

2. Well, the livid person |
|
is calling the person who is responsible for assigning assistants to faculty.
If she can't get any satisfaction there, she can file a grievance with the union.
