I just joined Netflix an I love it.
How many of you belong and what are your experiences?

$20 a month for unlimited DVD movies and no late fees. That beats Blockbuster for sure but there has to be some kind of catch.

I bet they make you pay postage.

they pay all shipping costs. There is a limit to how many you can have out at a time, but that's it.

2. We love Netflix.

It has really worked out well for us. We have kept movies for just a couple of days and as long as 4-5 weeks. One of the best parts I found is renting movies for my young son. If he really likes it, I will buy one for him, if he doesn't I am not out the expense. It is really a great service.

Since we joined a few months ago, we have watched the first four seasons of "The Sopranos" with some great old movies thrown in for fillers.

IMO, it's well worth the 20 bucks!

4. Tried it

Tried it early on. Wait list for most of the good movies and recent releases. Then movies took so long to arrive via the mail that it really wasn't a good deal. I understand they have more warehouses now, though, so maybe that aspect has improved.

25. It's a lot faster

turnaround now than it was when I was with Netflix a couple years ago. I get most of them earlier than they predict by one, sometimes two days.

5. I love Netflix!

I joined a couple of months ago. No late fees, no postage, I get most of my movies next day. It's the best.

Wow. Just the $20 a month isn't too bad then. :) I was wondering bk the postage would really drive up the price. Glad to hear this isn't the case.

A warehouse is only 150 miles away. Next day turnaround. Although I do miss wandering around the videostore stoned and indecisive

It is convenient, economical, easy to use AND the selection is much better and more varied than our local video stores.

11. I had it for about 18 months

there were several movies that were on the wait list that I could never seem to get butfor the most part it was fantastic. When I started Blockbuster and the indie rental places locally didn't even carry DVD. I was new to town, didn't know a soul and it was a really harsh winter. I watched a lot of movies. Now I am married and don't have time for movies but once a week so I gave up NF. I liked it a lot and found it easily worth the 20$

13. The easy return of the DVDs is FANTASTIC

Right now I'm using it to catch up on The Shield, 24 and other shows. I don't have Tivo yet. But even if I did, I'd still do netflix.

14. Watching my first Netflix DVD now

"To Live and Die in L.A." with William Petersen and Willem Dafoe. Very good flick. So far, very happy. We rent a lot of movies so this should be great for us. And cost less. Plus, I never liked Blockbuster.

we didn't get around to watching the DVDs enough to justify the price. They have a great catalog of obscure and old movies that would be difficult to find in our local video stores.

Our county library system has a vast catalog of VHS and DVD films, so we've gone back to borrowing them.

21. Digital Video Recorder let me cancel Netflix

My little DVR (like TiVo) always has a stockpile of my favorite shows and movies from the cable that I'm paying for but rarely have time to watch live, so I decided to cancel Netflix to save money. Irony is, in a moment of weakness, I pledged almost an offsetting amount to my local public radio station. Well, the money's going to a good cause now, at least.

My main gripe about Netflix is that you can't suspend your account, say if you went on vacation, or even if your were unemployed or something. To stop paying, you have to cancel--so you lose all the movies you've rated, lose your queue, and for me, I lost the somewhat better deal I got by subscribing early (FOUR movies out for $19.95 a month, rather than three).

But since I got the DVR, it's been tricky to get around to the Netflix stuff -- I only managed about two "sets" of rents the past couple months, so I won't miss it much. Besides, I can use my credit card bonus points to get free Blockbuster rentals, so if there is some new release I must see, I can do the BB thing. I will admit, Netflix does have EVERYTHING, which is good for a guy as into older or more obscure movies as I am.

How come I can have my video consumption so sussed out, when the rest of my life is such a mess? (Or is my life such a mess because I have my video consumption sussed?)

Hate Blockbuster--belonged to their club for special deals a few years back and they kept changing the rules so we walked out and never went back. Besides, our tastes in movies tend to be different than the ones Blockbuster has 20 copies of...

27. It's a godsend

for me, living as I do in a small south Mississippi town. I haven't watched TV in 20 years, there are no theatres within 30 miles, and the local video stores carry nothing that's (a) foreign, (b) gay-themed, or (c) controversial. Through Netflix, I've been able to see "Kiss Me, Guido," "Bowling for Columbine," and "Amalie," just to name a few.

I love netflix. I love getting access to controversial stuff... Michael Moore's "The Awful Truth" rocked my world. WOW.

I've been watching all kinds of movies, no fuss, no mess, no late fees. I've got at least 100 movies in my queue, so I don't even worry about deciding on a movie. They just come in the mail. Damn convenient.
