Why does "The Universe" on the History Channel always have to be about explosions... |
|
... of something that could kill us? Why do they always have to try to appeal to the lowest common denominator like that?
The universe is full of the most breath taking and awe inspiring objects and phenomena our minds could conceive. Wonders that can defy our scientific and aesthetic ability to describe. Why is this not the focus? Why does it always get reduced to "WHOOOO!!! Looky at that big ass 'splosion!"?

6. Most of the universe is occupied by matter and events that are vastly inhospitable to life. |
|
It's pretty accurate to portray the universe as a vast wasteland of explosions so huge that they could engulf our entire universe.

7. The universe is a vast, viollent, unforgiving wasteland. |

I would like to see more intelligent programming but if you've ever heard of the Peter Principle that's why they show bright colors and appeal to the fear factor.

8. I haven't heard anyone mention the Peter Principle in a long time. |
|
Glad to see others still remember it and how it still applies :) (don't know if that should be a smilie or not, given the content of the principle) :P

9. Good point. Why the Big Bang? |
|
If humans had been around to witness it, it more than likely would resemble a flower blooming in slow motion. How's that? See I turned their militaristic ideas about the universe around on them.
