Can we all have a major Karma push for NicoleM - the baby seems STUCK!!!
Poor NicoleM is due anyday and the baby doesn't seem to want to come out to the world. Can you blame baby NicoleM - coming into a world run by crooks like the Bush Regime! I think I'd stay inside the womb until we get Kerry in the White House this november.

But Nicole is getting frustrated so maybe if we all do a Karma Push the kid will get ready to be born

Everyone; BREATHE BREATHE BREATH PPPPPPPUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH!!!

1. My Liv was all warm and cozy and didn't want to come out either....
she was 10 days overdue.

Then I had labor for 36 hours and THEN a C-section.

She was all nice and cozy where she was and wanted to stay with the mommy.

5. No thanks.
It might work, but I can't imagine it would be pleasant for any of us at this stage.

11. Don't obsess over a date - it's calculated based on the
start of the last menstrual period, which in turn is used to calculate the supposed day of ovulation, 2 weeks out from that. Ovulation can vary as much as 2 weeks, though, so those oh-so-certain dates we give pregnant women are actually a 2 week window, especially the case with first births. And first deliveries tend to be prolonged, especially first stage labor. Don't freak over it; don't let your doc freak over it & do a c-section or forceps when it's not really needed. Sometimes these things take a little while.

16. Too late.
I'm obsessing over the date. I've been contracting for a couple of days now, but they're not strong or regular contractions. I'm uncomfortable. I can't sleep. I'm crabby. I REALLY REALLY REALLY do not want to do this for another two or three weeks.

29. Them are most likely braxton-hicks contractions...
you've heard of those, right? One of the more entertaining aspects of late pregnancy. Wish I was a famous obstetrician so I could have some contractions named after me....

6. trust me, it's better than it wanting to come out too soon
I deal with babies who couldn't wait to get out. Trust me, it's better when they want to stay in longer.

I know, try telling that to the mom. :)

8. Well, I'll get the forceps! LynneSin, can you rustle up some food?
Matcom can boil water, Zomby can make coffee, Will Pitt can post a controversial thread to discuss it, Robb can make a poll to see if the baby will also be a dingbat, Underpants can change his sig into a diaper for a day or two, um, who else am I missing?

Good luck NicoleM - godspeed to you and the little one!

14. Have you studied acupuncture?
There's a pressure point in the webbing (sorry; I don't know the right word) between your thumb and index finger. Rub it. I'm serious. Sit and rub the webbing between your thumb and index finger. It's a pressure point that will make your labor come quickly. I've had two friends (a married couple who are naturopathic doctors) tell me about this, and it's worked for several people I know.

23. Two tricks I've heard of
NicoleM should (1) iie down on a blanket and have an Apache brave ride a horse past her, within inches of her head, or (2) have a nipple massage but in the hospital cuz I hear the effect can be pretty fast.

28. Nicole, I'm the queen of stuck babies
Here's a few tips that may help. I'm not going into my birth stories cause they're rough and you don't need any negative energy right now, but I will tell you a couple tricks.

1) Don't recline. Sit strait up as much as possible. It keeps the better in a better position for being born and will make your back feel better in the meantime.

2) Get on your hands and knees as much as possible. Spend time before bed on you hands and knees with your bottom in the air. This also helps get the baby in a better position.

3) If not sex, try to have an orgasm through other means. It's helps get the natural oxytocin flowing. So does nipples stimulation.

For some more natural tricks, check out http://gentlebirth.org/archives/ . They have tons of natural tips there. And remember, most babies are born about a week past their "due date" for first time moms. I know it's hard, but (s)he'll be here before you know it.

Big, big  to you. :)

34. Late flash! _Don't_ have sex/orgasm! - it may delay things.
My programmer/analyst was just in here talking about a study we're working on, & he mentioned another study he's working on that he'd like to see published, on, you guessed it, "coital induction". This was completed last year, July, and the author is sitting on it for unknown reasons. The major finding was a delay of 6 days in labor with coital induction. So why the common wisdom that orgasm/coitus brings on labor? Well, it turns out this is not actually data-based - everyone just thinks it makes physiological sense. There are not actual studies to show that coital induction occurs, previous to the one I just heard about 5 minutes ago. I would never have guessed nothing had been done, but there's more of these sorts of things in medicine than you might suspect. That's why the current big push (sorry, Nicole) for 'evidence-based medicine'.
