the precursor to Adam on Northern Exposure... Ernest T's infrequent appearances turned Mayberry on it's hokey, middle-American ear.

I also enjoyed the music-playing family who seemed to always wind up in legal trouble and whose young female was always trying to spark with Andy.

AKA the Dillards in real life, a pretty well known bluegrass family (ranked right up there with the Carter family). Great stuff.

9. "Wheatstraw Suite" by the Dillards was seminal country rock.... |
|
They definitely came from bluegrass but crossed all kinds of boundaries with that album. One of the Dillards later recorded a couple of excellent albums with ex-Byrd Gene Clark.
As fine as he was, Gram Parsons was not the sole inventor of "country rock". However, he hung out with the Stones--the Dillards played the Andy Griffith show. Gram OD'd at 26--some of the Dillards are still playing.

6. Great quote from Sherriff Taylor |
|
Andy Taylor: When a man carries a gun all the time, the respect he thinks he's getting might really be fear. So I don't carry a gun because I don't want the people of Mayberry to fear a gun. I'd rather they respect me.

I was in an improv class during the Beltway sniper's reign of terror. We did a scene involving The Beltway sniper and Mayberry.

12. anybody see the gang last night on the TVLand Awards? |
|
the Andy Griffith Show received some award or other, and most of the surviving cast members (less Ron Howard) were there to receive it . . . pretty neat . . .
