HELP!
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 02:11 AM by Politics_Guy25
Guys, I need some advice big time.

Here goes, my best friend just called me. It's 10 to midnight here! She was so confused that she had to talk. Anyway, she met a guy online that lives in another state. Anyway, she told her best girl friend his name and everything. So the friend wanting to make sure that her friend didn't get hurt by some sleazebag went on to whitepages.com and typed in his name and e-mail address. WELL, low and behold WP and the whitepages.com e-mail finder list this guy's age as 36!! He told her that he was around 27-28 but she never really pressed him specifically for his age. My friend is 26! She was all excited to meet a hot guy but now is crushed. She's been online dating a guy that possibly is 10 years older than her. Anyway, my friend's best girl friend devised a little scheme for her to come up with a way to ask him what year he graduated. The scheme worked and he texted back to her that he graduated in 1998. This guy that my friend is dating didn't seem aware that my friend was onto him, So the graduated in 1998 story matches the age range that he gave her BUT Whitepages.com is a very reliable source and it says that he's 36!

What does she do?? What can I tell her? She's wondering if she should call him up crying and ask for the truth? Her thing is though: She's worried that he'll think that she was stalking him through the WP when it was all innocent. Also, would it destroy the relationship to confront him on this?

He has sent her 3 pics of himself from what I hear and he looked like a young guy but pics can be faked on the web easily. This is made all the worse because this guy she's dating online was in some financial trouble and she has offered to give him a few hundred dollars to help.

So, she's devastated. She was all ready to open up financially to this guy and was falling for him but now finds that the WP says that he's 36 when he says he's 28 or 29. My questions in summary are:

1. Is there any way at all that the WP could be wrong about his age really being 36 when he said he was in his 20s thus alleviating my friends pain pr does it "never lie.?"
2. What can I do or say to help?
3. Should she confront him and if so how?
4. Does the fact that he sent her three pics and looked late 20ish matter at all?

My friend is a mess. Any advice would be welcome. Oh and by the way to clear up confusion, apparently Whitepages.com lists your age, phone number, address, e-mail address, etc.

P.S.: BTW, I have his name now as well and typed it in to google. An article popped up that said that he was the employee of the month at a state medical center in 2000. No kid 2 years out of h.s. would be the employee of the month at a medical center. That's for sure right? If this was really him...City does match though.

1. If you googled my name
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 03:32 AM by suninvited
back when I lived in Pensacola, there were three of us with that same name in that same city. In white pages, I didnt show up because I had an unlisted phone number, so unless you knew my actual address and not just the city you would have seen other people with the same names information and not mine. The other two were about 10 years older than me. And my name is NOT common, there are no more of us in any other US city, but three of us in that city. We are all related to my ex husband, two of us were ex wives of his and one was his sister in law.

So unless you know his actual physical address, it could be a mistake.

I have never seen whitepages have anybodys email address correct.

2. Oh, and to send money to someone you met online
and never even met, not a good idea. There are a lot of scam artists out there!

3. I'm sure the WP could be wrong about his name, age and location.
It's not an exact science. The internet is riddled with errors.
