29. Well...
...we say a shadow on Jupiter from one of its moons. We saw M13 and M92 in Hercules. Saw the dust lanes and satellite galaxies in M31 and the spiral in M33. M22, M1, M74, the tiny cluster next to M35, some faint fuzzies barely there in Pegasus, the Rosette, the Veil, North America nebula, M54 and an awesome view of M42.

31. No angels?
 Must have been a great night! I still remember when I first saw Saturn through a telescope; first a blurry dot, and then focusing it in until the ring appeared. Jupiter was great to see, too.

32. Um, no angels, but we did see a UFO.
A couple of journalists were talking to Sweetie and me for their report on every county in PA. It was no dark yet, but Jupiter was out. I pointed it out. "That's Jupiter? What's that over there?" She pointed to the left of Jupiter near the horizon. There was a point source of light climbingand then stopping surrounded by what looked like a big comet head and tail. The comet head surrounded the bright point and the tail lead to the horizon vertically.

What I should have said was, "You tell me, man, I just work here." I had no idea and some of the others on the field speculated that it was an airliner fuel dump, which would be weird since it was over dry land.

After a few seconds the point of light disappeared and only the "comet" remained. Then that faded away. The concesus now is that it was a fuel dump from an airforce rocket from a base not too far away.

33. Since it's pretty rural here,
and I tend to stargazing anyway in clear nights, there's a lot of things I've seen ... At least I know that neither satellites nor the ISS change course abruptly and head of into a total different location. Nor do comets or asteroids.

But then, even my grandfather sworn he did see an UFO down here. And this was in the early sixties.

Meteor showers are really outstanding pretty here. I once watched one hitting the mountain across from us.

15. great view
It's good to look at distance, makes ya breathe deeper. Nice antidote to monitor-gazing. Those shoes - what are they like to walk in, or can you only prance? They look the kind of shoes that might impose their will on your feet. I'm thinking of that story about the red shoes, where the girl cannot stop dancing. Be careful.

19. Fun fact is,
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 01:48 PM by Call Me Wesley
that wherever I lived so far, I hade a lake in my view and the other shore, and I do like it; it's almost like you always look at another possibility.

For the shoes, though, I haven't worn them yet, just slipped in once, so if I dance my life away and can't stop, I'll let you know. Or cry for help. ;)
