6. I was in elementary school in San Diego at the time

The shooting took place at Cleveland Elementary, some 5 or 6 miles from my school. It was all the talk the next day when we found out that evening (ah yes, the pre-CNN 24/7 news era). I don't recall any special precautions - maybe it was not to panic us, or because it was such an anomaly - I don't know. But the playground was abuzz the next morning.
