Just another random rant
The crosswalk button only needs to be pushed once. Why do people think pushing the button 40 times will make the little green man appear faster?
Obviously, same goes with the elevator, if the light for the button is on, the elevator is on its way.

1. We are an impatient people...
aren't we. I hear what you're saying. I guess it just makes people feel like they are in control, making things happen.

3. In some cities, and in some buildings
the elevator buttons are programmed to respond first to the greatest need. So, if the elevator well contains 6 cars, and 10 people on the 4th floor want to go down, but 15 people on the 5th floor want to go up, the next available car goes to the 5th floor.

4. I'm sorry, but I don't understand
So, if you want to push the button 100 times, the elevator will come to you first because it thinks there are 100 people on that floor. Is that how it works or is there something a little more there that I'm missing?

7. Many crosswalk buttons are disabled.
In many areas, crosswalk buttons have been disabled as far as influencing traffic, some entirely, some at particular times of day. But that's no reason to take the shiny button off the nice pole and remove the fancy sign.

Genuine Sniglet: Elecelleration -- the belief that pressing the call button repeatedly will make the elevator arrive faster
