What was the last movie you rented, and what did you think of it?

A few weekends ago we rented State of Play (Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren) and Duplicity (Julia Roberts, Clive Owen).

Thought State of Play was actually quite good; obvious Blackwater parallels and interesting commentary on the newspaper business.

Thought Duplicity was a major waste of time and a lovely face (Clive Owen). Really thought it sucked. Awful.

How about you?

So it's safe to say I liked it. :)

14. It's hard to talk about without giving the big surprise up.
But I'll try.

It's about a man who gets kidnapped and held in a room for 15 years without ever knowing who kidnapped him or why. One day he's released and then he begins to unravel who did it and the reasons why. It's more than a little gruesome at times, but the story and acting are excellent, and the ending is a mind fuck.

9. hm. just checked it on imdb. Didn't look like it was
all that, but looked maybe interesting? Worth watching, or a waste of time?

13. a waste of time
unless you like to waste time.

i was actually at someone's house nursing a hangover and they had it on repeat or something on the dvd, because it played all day while i was writhing in her bed.

Don't blame Tommy boy.

If the earnest, muscle-headed delivery, dimples, and mustache didn't make you heave up the poison you ingested, nothing would.

3. Rented? Don't remember.
Watched in my living room on DVD? Grace. It's a movie about a zombie newborn. Cool concept, but real uneven. Great acting.

11. what the heck is it with all the zombie stuff lately?

We have these crappy RedBox kiosks at the grocery stores - they never really have anything worth watching; no real selection, just the latest blockbuster, teenybopper movie and slasher film. Our cool little independent video store went out of business a few months ago.

4. Mostly I get movies from the library. I'm a cheap ole' coot.
My wife got "Charly" out of the library and I watched for the first time in a few decades.

It's, um, dated. I had a good time telling my boys about the power of that room full of computers though.

12. I should check out our library's selection...
I should just check out the library, period. Last time I went in there they had a very meagre selection of books and movies, but they'd just moved. Maybe it's better now.

19. For some reason Brad Pitt as an actor bugs me ...
though personally he seems like a very cool, liberal, and compassionate guy.

Maybe I'll check it out, though. I do like the Coen brothers.

Great screenplay, great cast, great acting. It's so enjoyable to watch a group of pros at the top of their game. And State Of Play is at the top of my Netflix queue.

But I'll probably avoid it. I'm avoiding sad movies; too much sadness in real life these days.

...you'll have to take a  from me for the sad things that abound.

I should avoid sad movies too, but I LIKE sad movies. I love a good historical drama, which are almost always sad.

33. Bottom feeding tonight.
I rented "Push".

If I get drunk enough, and if they spent enough on the special effects budget, I'll acquiesce into a dark acceptance that I wasted my buck-fifty.

If that doesn't happen, there will be anger at my stupidity, and shame a plenty.
