Do you like watermelons?
I'll eat slice of it,if it's offered. But I prefer honeydew or cantelope. Is there any recipes that use watermelons?

1. watermelon salad
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 10:42 AM by Tuesday Afternoon
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Watermelon-Summer-Salad/Detail.aspx

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
3/4 cup halved, thinly sliced red onion
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 1/2 quarts seeded, cubed watermelon
3/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
1/2 cup pitted black olive halves
1 cup chopped fresh mint
2 tablespoons olive oil

DIRECTIONS
Place the onion slices in a small bowl with the lime juice. The acid of the lime will mellow the flavor of the raw onion. Let stand for 10 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine the watermelon cubes, feta cheese, black olives, onions with the lime juice, and mint. Drizzle olive oil over it all, and toss to blend. Dig in and be prepared for a pleasant surprise!

4. I like watermelon flavor, but not so much the watermelon itself.
I'll eat chunks in a fruit salad, but I don't seek it out. Don't really like the other melons either, especially canteloupes. x(

12. Good watermelons are hard to find in stores.
Growers typically give their fields a big pulse of water right before the melons are harvested, to increase their weight ($$) and to help prevent them from drying out too much in stores as they sit around (melons start losing water content as soon as they're picked). The problem with the extra water is that it dilutes the flavor, making the melon blander.

Good fresh picked watermelons, grown properly and eaten right after picking, are firm and extremely sweet. I love melons like that. The oversized watermelons typically found in stores don't excite me that much.

14. oh lordy yes, and they are good for you!
I recently even read that watermelon is a natural Viagra, because of the amino citrulline.

That aside, it's just delicious. Mmmm. I prefer it room temperature, not chilled.

Tastes change.

As a kid I hated buttermilk.
In my 20s I loved it.
Now (in my 60s) I can't stand it again.

25. Yes, and I have the most delicious and easy recipe.
Cut a watermelon (pref. seedless) into chunks. Squeeze fresh lime juice over it. Coarsely chop fresh mint and toss with the watermelon. Both the lime juice and the mint are "to taste" so you get to sample liberally while you make it. It is sooooo incredibly delicious and refreshing.

Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 01:15 PM by frogmarch
more than a bite or two gives me painful stomach gas and makes me burp a lot, just like other melons do - and cucumbers. They're all in the same family (Cucurbitaceae), so I guess it figures.
