Anybody here still eat fish sticks?
I think of these as kid food, but occasionally crave some.....
But I never really grew up anyway.

9. It's been 20 years
I loved fish sticks as a kid, but once I became vegetarian, I gave them up.
It's actually the only meat product that I missed.
We used to go to H. Salt fish and chips. Are they still even around?

12. Hubby was craving them, and there's a 50 cent off coupon for Gortons...
at the commissary. The 44 stick value package is only $1.80 or so with the coupon (normally around $2.30); with a bottle of Hienz tartar sauce at around a dollar, he's got lunch for around 5 days there...plus, they had the Battered and Fried Clams for the same price and the value pack.

He's been a happy, regressed to childhood camper all week. And it's been a cheaper lunch for him than trying to figure out what type of sandwiches to make. (The bread he can eat - rye, sourdough, or pumpernickle, is more expensive than the bag of fish sticks)

22. You can't get decent ones anymore.
When I was a kid, pretty much all fish sticks were made from cod or herring. The fish sticks you buy today are almost always made up of lower quality haddock or pollock trimmings, and are usually more of a pasty mash than the flaky codsticks we grew up with. The texture is different and the taste is different.

I love to eat codsticks when I can find them, but with the price of cod being what it is nowadays, they're kind of hard to find.

23. My husband eats them about
once a month. He likes Mrs. Paul's the best because he says they taste better than other brands, and they are crunchy.

I don't eat animal flesh, and the smell of regular fish cooking gags me. That's why my husband eats fish sticks instead.

24. Fish stick quality has deteriorated so much that, if I had a craving for them . . .
. . . I'd make 'em from scratch . . . much healthier! Recipe? Here:

28. This is part of the problem - we don't eat them often at all,
and we keep searching for better quality products, with little success. I guess since they are thought of primarily as "kid food" quality doesn't matter - so long as they are salty and crunchy kied will eat them and not know better. Another triumph for American industry....kind of like "krab" cakes.

29. Today's "fish-sticks" aren't something I'd feed to any child of mine because . . .
. . . I consider them generally unfit for human consumption.
Besides, there never was such a thing as "kid food" in our
family after young-uns were weened and off the Gerber's.

35. LOL --- Reminds me of a loaf of very olde bread we crumbled to toss to the birds . . .
. . . in the middle of winter when the bird-feeder was empty
& the roads were too hazardous to drive into town. Not only
would the birds not eat it, we haven't bought THAT brand of
bread since then: we'd forgotten it was in the pantry and,
2 months past it's "sell by" ("use by"?) date, it hadn't
developed one speck of mold. A non-food masquerading as the
staff-of-life? (Wonder, indeed!)

that fell behind the refrigerator for most of a year - they are not meticulous cleaners - and looked and felt fresh.

They bought a bread making machine.

30. No, what are you? A gay fish?
Gay Fish - Kanye West

*Interlude*
Yo, uh, uh c'mon

*Verse 1*
I've been so lonely girl, I've been so sad and down
Couldn't understand why haters joked around
I wanted to be free with other creatures like me
And now I got my wish, cause i know that I'm a gay fish (gay fish)

*Chorus*
(Gay fish Yo) mother fuckin' gay fish
(I'm a fish yo) goin' on a gay fish
(It's alright girl) makin' love to other gay fish

*Verse 2*
All those lonely nights at the grocery store
In the frozen fish aisle feelin' like a whore
Cause I wasn't being true
Even though everyone said that I had to make a switch
(Gay fish) now I know that I'm a gay fish (gay fish)

*Chorus*
(Gay fish Yo) mother fuckin' gay fish
(I'm a fish yo) Goin' on a gay fish
(Now I'm where i belong girl) makin' love to other gay fish

*Verse 3 Rap*
I used to be scared, denying who I was
Acting straight but then going out to the gay fish clubs
Dancing with the Marlins making out with the all the Snappers
I'd take a Salmon home and work that Coddle Fin for hours
But now I'm out and I'm free to love what I want
Be it Yellow Fin or Bass or them trout in Vermont
I slapped that Holland ass, make that Grouper butt shake
I'll come to your house and have an orgy in your motherfuckin' fish tank (fish tank, fish tank)

*Chorus*
Mother fuckin' gay fish
(I'm a fish yo) Goin' on a gay fish
(Yeah now I'm where i belong girl) makin' love to other gay fish

*Verse 4*
I really get around I'm the slut of the sea
When i say I've got crabs I mean it literally
I was eating dinner and just had to go down on that Mackerel on the dish
Cause I'm the gayest of the gay fish (gay fish)

*Chorus*
Mother fuckin' gay fish
(I'm a fish yo) Goin' on a gay fish
Yeah now I'm where i belong girl

*Verse 5*
But I gotta settle down I can't be a whore
I ain't gonna just sleep with any fish no more
I've found me a lover, a brother who's a cross-dressing Cod named Trish
And together we are gay fish (gay fish)

*Chorus*
(Gay fish yo) motherfuckin' gay fish
(I'm a fish yo) goin' on a gay fish
(Yeah, now I'm where i belong girl) makin' love to other gay fish
(Gay fish, gay fish, gay fish, gay fish, gay fish, gay fish...)
