DUers who are parents: Do you think this is possible?

Susan Klebold, mother of the infamous Dylan Klebold, says she had "no inkling" her son was suicidal until she saw his journals and other materials after his dealth. I am not a parent, so I don't know: If you had been spending any time with your kid to speak of, do you think it's possible for the kid to hide such a disturbed mind so completely? I find it hard to believe myself.

1. Yes, it's certainly possible to not realize that your child is suicidal.

2. Teenagers are often very moody and very strange,

so sometimes it's hard to tell if it's just a phase or if they're really having some problems. My youngest daughter hardly spoke to me at all for seven years, which was personally quite painful, but in observing her demeanor with her friends, I could tell her angst was very person-specific, i.e., towards me. Once she got out of high school and into her own place, all that anger seemed to vanish into thin air, and now six years later we get along great.

I can sort of see Ms. Klebold's point, but I do think her child was much more off the deep end than mine was. Obviously.
