If you could take one food that is totally unhealthy for you and magically turn it into health food |
|
what one item would you pick.
You can only pick one food. The food itself will not change in taste or consistancy whatsever.
Me?
I'd pick BACON!!!

|
Edited on Wed Oct-14-09 11:19 AM by Tobin S.
from a local pizzeria called Ron's. I used to drink a twelve pack of beer, then, having the beer munchies, I'd give Ron's a call. I'd eat the whole pizza in one sitting by myself. Gawd, that was heaven. It's also how I got to be 290 pounds and why I now eat a lot of bran flakes with fat free milk.

42. Rice and potatoes aren't bad for you. |
|
potatoes are low in fat, rich in several micronutrients, especially vitamin C - eaten with its skin, a single medium sized potato of 150 g provides nearly half the daily adult requirement (100 mg). The potato is a moderate source of iron, and its high vitamin C content promotes iron absorption. It is a good source of vitamins B1, B3 and B6 and minerals such as potassium, phosphorus and magnesium, and contains folate, pantothenic acid and riboflavin. Potatoes also contain dietary antioxidants, which may play a part in preventing diseases related to aging, and dietary fibre, which benefits health. Of course, if you take off the skin and fry it in lard it's no good. Same with rice, sure crappy bleached rice devoid of all it's natural stuff is, same with flours , but they aren't 'bad', they're actually healthy and necessary to proper health.
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to lecture you. I guess I just did. I don't mean it as a lecture, I just deal with a lot of young girls who're hurting themselves with their crazy aversion to carbs it's knee jerk for me.

64. Potatoes are not bad for you - it's what goes on them |
|
Butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon, more butter, lots more cheese, etc. Even with the skin on, all that other stuff is not good. Even if you like potatoes the way I do - baked, empty the useless white parts out, dump butter, cheese and bacon in the skin and eat that - it's still not good.

aren't potatoes. There are lots of ways to cook potatoes that don't include those things *shrug* I would put those things on the list of foods I wish were healthy, not potatoes.

They are my absolute most favorite junk food. Chocolate and peanut butter are my versions of Crack. This just rolls 'em into one. I think the wafers have some other addictive substance in them, which makes it even more difficult for me to resist them. I love the Swiss cake rolls, too. Haven't had one in decades, as I am still carrying the ones I ate as a child around on my hips. I loved to eat the chocolate coating, and then unroll them and eat them that way.

46. Canned hash...roast beef or corned beef... |
|
...and before anyone tells me there are "healthy recipes," I've had "healthy roast beef and/or corned beef hash. It ain't hash.
When I was a kid my folks used to go to a local coffee shop that didn't have hash on the menu but made it for ME as a special request. Maybe that's why I love it.
Once or twice a year I'll buy a can as a forbidden treat. The first thing you don't want to do is READ THE LABEL. Holy CRAP, you'd be better of eatin' a couple of BIG MACS.

OK, it's not technically a food.
But I'd still pick that, simply because (a) I enjoy them at least as much as any food I can think of (well, maybe not as much as good vindaloo BUT THAT IS TOTALLY HEALTHY I AM CONVINCED) and (b) I want to see the looks on all the fake-coughing control-freaks' faces. Not only do I want to see smoking cars on trains come back, I want them to COST MORE than the non-smoking ones and watch all the yuppies fall over themselves to make sure they get in.

It's already in everything. I'd see nothing but an advantage from that crap being healthy, because Lord knows nobody is dumping it anytime soon.
Maybe that's an ingredient. Whatever.
Bacon already can be a health food, one just needs to not get it from a pig nor cook it in grease.
