Poll question: What's Your Headache Quotient?
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 01:01 AM by cherokeeprogressive
Do you get stress headaches? Suffer from Migraines? Do you get a headache from staring at a monitor after a while?

I'm posting this because of a discussion I had a few evenings ago with a group of friends at the local dive bar. Two out of about twelve admitted to having headaches at that very moment. Most of the others said they got headaches after stressful days, in certain situations, and one said she had Migraines that incapacitated her at least once a month.

No one believed me, and in fact a couple of people actually seemed to take offense when I told them that I have NEVER had a headache in my entire life other than one that was secondary to a hangover. Even more anger when I told them that hangover headaches aren't headaches, they're caused by dehydration.

What's your story on headaches?

1. My dear cherokeeprogressive!
Yes, you are correct. Hangover headaches are caused by dehydration. If you stop with the alcohol soon enough, and start in with water, you can stop that kind of headache.

I rarely have any sort of headache, and I have no idea why. I used to have them, but now? Rare. I've never had a migraine, for which I am most grateful.

:hi:

2. Hi Peg!
When I think I've had too much to drink, I pound a couple of tall glasses of water before I go to bed, and usually wake up feeling fine. Have to admit though, I remember having hangovers from hell when I was a Sailor. The worst was from drinking beer in Mombasa, which I'm told had formaldehyde in it as a preservative due to the lack of refrigeration back in the day. The light hurt my eyes the next morning, and just picking my head off of the pillow was an exercise in pain.

My ex-Wife used to say that I didn't get them because I didn't care about anything. I know for a fact that's not true.

I've often been curious though, when someone says "Oh, I think I'm getting a headache", just what that must be like. I just can't relate to that in any meaningful way.

I wonder if that affects the likelyhood of ever having a stroke?

Always nice to hear from you!

5. Nice to hear from you too!
I don't know just off-hand how not having a headache would affect your chances of ever having a stroke...

Although, if a headache is related to high blood pressure, there MIGHT be a correlation. MIGHT. Check with your doctor!

3. i get migraines quite a bit- but not necessarily from stress...
i have found that one of my triggers is the acetylehyde produced by/in ripe fruit. (it's the same stuff that causes hangovers from drinking alcohol)

and due to a condition called 'raynaud's syndrome', i can't take imitrex and the like for migraines, so vicoprofen is my weapon of choice.

4. Rapid changes in barometric pressure sometimes give me a headache.
Other than this, I rarely get headaches. :hi:

Me? Faster than a speeding building, and able to leap tall BULLETS in a single bound...

I think we're getting somewhere here.

8. I'm unsure what it's like to not have a headache
I have severe migraines (less frequent now that I'm on an antiseizure med); have very low blood pressure which causes headaches; and have tempermental sinuses. I almost always have at least a mild headache. :nopity: I'm used to it; unless it's really bad or a migraine, I really don't pay much attention to them.
