1. I brewed 15 gallons of beer this weekend
5 of british bitter, 5 of belgian dubbel, and 5 of bavarian hefeweizen.

Yum!

23. I've also got 21 gallons of mead going.
And I'm ordering a 5-gallon pail of tupelo honey to make 15-20 gallons more.

I'm still a lowly partial-grain-and-malt-extract brewer.

13. interesting
It is alcoholic? I find this interesting, as "Malzbier" usually (in Germany and the Netherlands) is non-alcoholic, a traditional type of beer-related soft drink.

16. Yep it is -- site says 3.7%
A bit less than their regular beer (which is 5%) but alcoholic, yes.

30. How is Karamalz consumed?
What is the idea of this? The only person I knew who drank it was my landlord who used to add it to generic beers for "more flavor"

36. by 10-year olds (of all ages)
It's a "pop" , plain and simple. Karamalz and all the others ( most major brewers and some minor have a "Malzbier") are beer for children. The newer marketing ploys, like added lime, are just to keep it "hip".
When the adults get their beer, so do the kids.

OK, even I drink some "Malzbier" sometimes and I like it a lot better than most soft drinks. However, I much prefer the Dutch style, which is a lot more malty in flavor, blond and not sweet.

38. depends on what you expect
For me it's a childhood memory, nothing I would label "good". As a beer it is beyond horrible: sickly sweet.

4. Stone IPA

Cuz you can't have too many IBUs...

Dogfish Head's IPA is also awesome. A bit lighter on the hops, brings out some other flavors. Their Raison D'Etre is also very cool.

43. 15 years ago he would have been right
but seriously, starting in the 90s, we Americans have been brewing some kick-ass beer, and any honest European who's been here will tell you that.

We got nuthin' to be ashamed of anymore...well, except the obvious...but that will clear up nicely in 8 months :)

44. Right now I'm going with the old trusty Sierra Nevada
Pale Ale. Tomorrow it will probably be something different though.
In fact, tomorrow I'm hosting the annual spring potluck of our local homebrewing club. I have some Duinen Dubbel, Trappistes Rochefort and Traquair House Ale tucked away for that.
