You guys know me; I'm pretty friendly and usually patient with people. |
|
BUT I am so very, very tired of people responding like assholes to the most inane comments made here on DU. Sure, there are subjects that ought to be taken seriously but even if a person disagrees with a post, why must they attach a personal insult to their declaration of opposition EVERY FUCKING TIME? I've been around since 2004 and it's taken me just about five years to realize that this behavior isn't so much an exception as it is the rule.
Okay, rant off. :grr:

2. I just put them on ignore, immediately... |
|
...I used to try to reason-slash-fuck with them, and it's just not worth it.
There are people who come here to bait other people and to screw with other people and I don't have time for that, so fuck 'em, and thanks once again to Skinner-EarlG-Elad for including "Ignore List" functionality on DU.

4. I haven't used that feature in a few years and forget we have it. |

You're right; that would be the smart response.

Nice to see you. I'm fine, great really, getting ready for Halloween and getting the house and property ready for - ugh - winter. Today I'm altering my youngest's knight costume to fit his tiny widdle form. How are you? How's married life going? :hi:

14. i'm loving the hell out of this being married thing |
|
:)
my life is exactly the same as it was before, but everything, even having the most boring night at home, feels better.
i'm snowed in today. there's about six inches on the table on my deck and there's no sign of it letting up any time soon. i think they're predicting another 6-8 inches out of this storm and i'm so glad i don't work today or tomorrow, but the bummer part is that mr. fizzgig does.
i'm going to stop there because, given the chance, i will talk endlessly about how much i love being married :)

11. i think some today view disagreement as not merely a rhetorical attack but as... |
|
a complete refutation of one's identity. An opinion no longer stands as simply that - it's now personalized. So the jerks out there who can't separate themselves from their opinions have to resort to being quasi-sociopathological in their response.

13. You make a good point although the |
|
concept is foreign to me. I still don't understand the pointed rudeness: it only undermines the viewpoint being touted. You know, like spelling errors undermine the seriousness of the message. heh.

I know what you mean - I am more shocked when a person's post receives a reasonable disagreement reply, where you can actually have a conversation with the person about the issue, than when a post receives a shitty reply. Sad.

Not just here, but in general... I think the air of uncertainty, the polarization of opinions, and other factors have everyone on edge.
People are more aggressive in my business dealings, either in a negative ("no, you're not going to get ANY slack from me") or "positive" ("hey, let me tell you how to run your business!") ways.
As the old Chinese curse says, "may you live in interesting times."

Same thing with Jessica Simpson's little dog. If that singer had had the foresight to arm that little dog with a glock, a pink one even, it would never have been snatched by coyotes.

Getting angry, resorting to personal insults.
It's worth working on.
