Good morning Lounge
How are you today?

It is Friday :woohoo: And I actually have the weekend off :woohoo:

So I will hop on the train after work and go to my mom. Haven't seen her since August. Damn, the time sure flies by.
Tomorrow we will visit my dad's grave and I guess make it ready for winter.

My throat is still itching, I might get a stupid cold after all. Well, at least I hope it is only a cold :)

1. Good morning Miss H
I haven't done anything all week except lounge around the house and read some books. It's been glorious! I can't wait to be retired. :) Hopefully I'll be able to do it while I'm relatively young.

But it's back to work next week for me next week. I'm kind of looking forward to the drive to work and back in my new car. I have a 50 kilometer commute one way.

Here's to having some time off! :toast:

2. Good morning Tobin
:hi:  :loveya:

As much as I enjoy doing nothing and just reading I also love to work. I would get bored without work after a while. I am a lazy bum, so it is a good thing I am forced to go to work daily ... LOL

I started a new book. It is by James Welch, called "Fools Crow" http://www.amazon.com/Fools-Crow-Contemporary-American-Fiction/dp/0140089373/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256896566&sr=8-1. I read another non-fiction book by him already, called "Killing Custer" http://www.amazon.com/Killing-Custer-Battle-Little-Indians/dp/0140251766/ref=sip_rech_dp_10. That is how I came to "Fools Crow".

3. Those look like good books
I've not read any of his stuff, but I have read a little about the history of Native American and settler relations in the early years of America. It is a horrible....well, anything short of the word genocide would be white washing it.

4. "Killing Custer"
Edited on Fri Oct-30-09 05:16 AM by MissHoneychurch
was a great read. I am very interested in the history of Native Americans, read quite a lot of non-fiction already. Novels not so many, esp. not written by Native Americans. Here is some info about James Welch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Welch_(writer)

And yes, it was a genocide. And still is.

5. Good morning MissH!
Glad to see you here today. I was having MissH withdrawals yesterday.

FRIDAY!

I too am glad that it's here. Right now though it's cold and rainy outside, so the weather is not just too inviting.

It's been a long time since I've been on a train. What a great mode of transportation. Are your bags packed already or do you have to head home first before you "hit the road".

:hi: :loveya:

6. Good morning Callalily
:hi:  :loveya:

I DID post yesterday, just a bit later as I was sitting in interviews till noon.

I already packed and took my suitcase with me. I will go straight to the train station after work. It works a bit different here than in the U.S. We are allowed to go to the tracks even before the train arrives and we take our luggage with us to where we sit. Some have a seat reserved like me, other don't. They either try to find a free seat or have to stand.

8. I did see your morning thread,
but it was in the evening so I didn't think it was appropriate to comment. ;)

Hey, how did the interviews go? Hire anyone?

There's always talk about having train service between here and Chicago and here and the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) but nothing really comes to fruition. I for one would utilize it's services, would welcome it with open arms. But I doubt that will happen in my lifetime. *sigh*

7. Good Morning Miss Honeychurch! TGIF!
:hi:  :loveya: :pals:

Have a great weekend and say hi to your Mom for me please. :)

I stayed in bed a little longer this morning, these baseball games are on too late. Either that or I'm getting too old for all this.

Hope your sore throat clears up very soon.

I am drinking hot tea, that helps a bit. And I already bought water and juice for the train ride. The air is so dry there, I always need something to drink. Otherwise I won't survive the 3 1/2 hours.

28. probably not
well, I'll wear clothes, just not a costume - it's more of a Halloween pumpkin carving party than an actual Halloween party. They do it every year and it's always a lot of fun.

33. I love FoxTrot too
there was one specific strip I was searching for but couldn't find. Paige carving a pumpkin, you see the sounds it makes and in the end she says "I always wonder how you can smile after this procedure"
Since you love FoxTrot you might know which strip I mean.

No, we don't celebrate Halloween in Germany. Like Valentine they try to make it bigger here, so that people spend more money. We have something similar to Halloween in November, St. Martin's Day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Martin%27s_Day

"The day is celebrated in the evening of November 11 in Belgium (mainly in the Dutch-speaking Flanders), some parts of the Netherlands and most areas of Germany and Austria. Children go to houses with paper lanterns and candles, and sing songs about St. Martin in return for treats. Often, a man dressed as St. Martin rides on a horse in front of the procession. This tradition is similar to trick-or-treating on Halloween."

Thank you for the link. That is really interesting. Didn't hear about it. But then I didn't watch any news the last couple days as I worked late.

I would support BMW, except their cars are above my possibilities ... beside I don't need a car in Frankfurt.

Are you going skiing in the winter?
