HAPPY HALOWEEN, LOUNGE! Any special plans for the day?
I'm very happy it's on Saturday this year - We're going to meet my brother and SIL at a huge farmer's market/flea market out in the fall countryside. There are lots of places selling great food and real antiques and old junk, and I would not be surprised if we came home with some of each. I guess we will then eat too much, watch some old movies and just take it easy. Have a great Halloween!

1. Giving out candy to the kids..
Edited on Sat Oct-31-09 03:33 AM by AsahinaKimi
I have to tell this story;
When I was about 7 years old I partnered up with a five year old girl, (I have since forgotten her name) and we would help each other get lots of candy. We were doing pretty good until we went to this one old guys house and he gave me a can of Boston Baked Beans, and she got a can of Creamed Spinach. She was so upset, that she sat down on the curb and cried.

Her mother thought she had hurt herself but when she showed her mom the can of Creamed Spinach, her mother laughed and thought it was funny. I consoled her and ended up giving her all my Mars Bars..and she felt better and I told her we could do better. Later she gave me a bunch of twizzlers.. cause we both went to this one house where this guy gave away a ton of candy...and she got more than I did so she felt bad for me.

She was so sweet, and I really enjoyed that night, except for the fact, that I knew when I got home I had to hide my candy, because my dad is a Dentist and hates Halloween, because of the candy..(he used to pass out tubes of sample toothpaste until my mom put a stop to it...She told him it was not in the spirit of Halloween.)so I had to hide mine. I think that year I put it in the garage.. but he found it and thew it out. Fortunately, my mom went though the candy and put some aside for me, on the side.

Talk about weird though, who gives out cans of Creamed Spinach for Halloween??!!

2. I used to have a great time on Halloween.
We lived in a subdivision, typical fifties tract houses. There were a hundred houses, and every house had a large family of baby boom children. There were tons of us, and it seemed like most of the families gave out great candy.

My kids had a great time, too. Every year, I let them decide what they wanted to be for Halloween. We planned in advance, and they came up with some good costumes.

I will be here giving out candy and admiring costumes. I wish I got more trick or treaters. We live in the country, so we get only a few.

3. Happy Halloween to you too!

Every Halloween onestepforward and I sit out on the driveway, hand out candy and drink beer with a bunch of our neighbors. It being a Saturday, it may go a little late this year!

Here are some shots of our decorations.

Our 12' scarecrow. He looks great blowing in the breaze. One year we rigged him to move!

Our 4' Nosferatu door ornament. Here's made from a vacuum cleaner box packing tape and acrylics paints!

Have a safe and Happy Halloween everybody! :hi:

We have set up down to a little less than four hours.:P The neighbors really love it too. So we keep it up.

9. Pretty much my favorite, too! I love the season around here - semi-rural
Eastern PA-the fall colors, all the harvest fruit and vegies, and the food, costumes, etc. People seem to be pretty happy at Halloween, and delight in goofiness for its own sake. And there are no real RULES - you don't have to go to grandma's, watch fireworks, etc - you can make it what you want.

Hope everyone has a great day.
(except for Yankees fans)

5. I get to give out candy for the first time tonight
My work schedule always interfered before. I live in a small condo community so I don't know if I'll get many kids.

8. We live out in a rural area so no kids.
Today it's the usual work around the house, but I've bookmarked each of our favorite old scary movies so we can cuddle up together and watch.

10. Our place is quiet, but just a few blocks away it rocks!
We live in a perfect area for Hallowe'en. It's Capitol Hill, Seattle's most hip area and where most of the GLBT dress-up action is. Then two blocks over it's intensely young, urban family oriented, lots of decorating, lots of kids. Then the artist community usually does some over-the-top performances. This year there's a street laser show that is hoped to be brilliant.

I'm too old to play, really, but I'm one hell of an observer! Wish I was twenty one again. The definition of what's a trick and what's a treat would be entirely different!

I spent some time as a kid. It was great - lots of Cub Scouts in homemade costumes, like airplanes made of large cardboard boxes and foil, and every fire truck for miles around. It was a little cold so I gave her my jacket. We got married the next January almost 17 years ago.
